Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP) proudly stands as the largest expanded learning provider in San Mateo County, dedicated to empowering 5,400 TK-College students across 29 sites from East Palo Alto to Daly City. POSITION OVERVIEW
As a Psychotherapist, will provide direct service, paraprofessional staff consultation, training, and support to the after-school youth development program at both the Redwood City and East Palo Alto Clubhouse. Our non-traditional setting requires formal psychotherapy skills (case management, assessment, individual, group, & family counseling, client advocacy, and managing referrals) and informal behavioral coaching, social-emotional support, youth development, and skill development. As a clubhouse psychotherapist, you will bring mental health services to communities that would not normally access mental health care. We are looking for a dynamic professional willing to commit to the community. This position reports to the Director of Mental Health.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Care (50%)

  • Provide psychotherapy and crisis intervention for individuals, groups, and families

  • Assess the mental health needs of clubhouse members and connect them to appropriate resources

  • Maintain organized, accurate, and timely record–keeping and documentation of client-related activities

Social-Emotional Support (30%)

  • Partner with Clubhouse Leadership to integrate social-emotional learning into all aspects of program culture and instruction

  • Engage with the clubhouse community members and their families building rapport outside of formal counseling  

  • Develop creative ways to engage the community and meet the needs of students and their families

Staff Capacity Building (10%)

  • Provide consultation to afterschool staff on mental health issues impacting club members

  • Assist with the development and implementation of agency-wide mental health, social-emotional practices, and youth development trainings, procedures, and policies 

  • Assist with tours and presentations for funders and donors interested in supporting mental health

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Masters degree or above in counseling from an accredited college or university, in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or clinical social work

  • License in good standing with the Board of Behavioral Sciences

  • Experience working with youth in a community setting

  • Counseling experience with individuals, groups, and families

  • Experience with crisis intervention and triage

  • Background working in an ethnically diverse community and in meeting the needs of the groups represented

  • Strong initiative, self-starter, intrinsically motivated, problem solver

  • Strong interpersonal skills and youth development experience

  • Great organizational, communication, and collaboration skills

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, crouching, squating, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 20% walking & standing. Work environment noise level is usually moderate but can be noisy at times. All requirements are subject to reasonable accommodations.

Redwood City Clubhouse & East Palo Alto Clubhouse 

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Thursday: 11:00am to 8:00 pm

Friday: 10am to 6:30 pm



SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Employment Status: Full-Time Salary

  • Pay Range: $90,000 - $110,000, depending on experience (DOE)

ONBOARDING PROCESS

  • BGCP will cover all onboarding process requirements

  • Complete LiveScan and Checkr background check

  • Undergo a TB test

  • Participate in mandatory onboarding training sessions
