Position Summary
The Chief Grants Strategy Officer (CGSO) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, management, and impact efforts through grantmaking and community engagement. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the CGSO is expected to work collaboratively with all members of the executive team to ensure the agency’s impact, goals, and objectives are achieved. The CGSO will be an experienced change maker who can identify trends and opportunities and leverage best practices for improved agency performance and sustainability. The CGSO will lead the entire grant process in a comprehensive, strategic approach to ensure that grants are fully utilized to achieve the best outcomes.
Authority and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Grants Strategy Officer will guide, manage, motivate, and inspire Covenant House Alaska’s leadership teams and serve as a trusted partner to the Board of Directors. The CGSO maintains authority to make resource allocations within their approved budget and workforce decisions within regulatory standards. Changes in policy, long-range plans for initiatives, and substantial budget modifications must be referred to the Chief Executive Officer.
Essential Functions
Organizational Leadership, Strategic Management, Advocacy

Strategic thought partner and collaborative problem solver with the CEO, Executive Team, Board of Directors, and key stakeholders.

Patriciate in all aspects of impact, program/initiative, grants activity, and strategic planning.

Create and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key outside colleagues, community partners, and civic and political leaders.

Provide project management for special initiatives, including service contracts.

Identify and help implement fee-for-service revenue opportunities.
Grant Strategy and Procurement

Provide oversight and direction for identifying and securing funding from foundations, state, federal, and local grant(s) sources to support CHA’s initiatives

Analyze trends and practices of similar organizations at local and national levels and identify and propose funding strategies that align with CHA’s Strategic Plan.

Help build new strategic partnerships to increase revenue and garner additional support to help sustain CHA and its strategic initiatives.

Oversee, manage and/or patriciate in developing funding proposals for organizational projects and initiatives.

Optimize resource allocation to ensure that the most Impactful programs receive adequate support.
Grant Administration

Ensure protocols are in place for adequate reporting, including the collection and management of data necessary for statistical and grant reporting.

Provide guidance and leadership across the organization to ensure grant-funded projects are being managed within the appropriate framework and timelines

Implement new methods and technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve grant processes.

Coordinate the development of accurate, comprehensive reports that demonstrate the impact of funded projects.

Ensure compliance and implementation of grant deliverables.

Work closely with the finance team to ensure proper financial management of grant funds.

Assist in maximizing the utility of the Efforts to Outcomes Platform to collect, analyze, and report outcome data with the goal of increasing public and private investment.

Analyze data to inform strategic decisions and improve programs.

Prepare background materials and develop proposed action strategies in support of the organization’s efforts to secure funding.
Minimum Education
-
Master's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Services or similar field. Experience can substitute for post-secondary experience on a year-for-year basis

Lived Experience, experience working with adolescent or disadvantaged populations, preferably in a residential setting; life, volunteer, and internship experience are all considered assets.
Minimum Experience
-
Minimum of 8 - 10 years of progressively responsible senior administrative and management experience in a similar setting and familiarity with the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors is preferred.

Demonstrated experience managing a high-performing team in a multi-tiered structure to include professional development and mentorship.

Comprehensive working knowledge of organizational planning, organizational structure, grantmaking budgets, administrative operations, and fundraising.

Ability to adjust schedule to support Agency needs, deadlines, or special circumstances which may include working or being available by phone outside of normal business hours, and Holidays and/or weekends as needed.

Possess a current and valid Driver's License and have a clean driving record.

Pass federal, state, and local background check investigations.
