Job Summary:
The SCBA and Breathing Air Cascade System Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, repair, and operation of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and breathing air cascade systems. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and readiness of personnel who rely on these systems in emergency situations or hazardous environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Inspection and Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections of SCBA units, components, and breathing air cascade systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness.
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing of SCBA equipment and breathing air compressor equipment, including pressure testing, flow testing, and replacement of consumable parts.
2. Repair and Troubleshooting:
- Diagnose and repair faults in SCBA equipment and breathing air cascade systems, ensuring timely resolution to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance performed on equipment.
3. Operational Support:
- Assist in the setup and operation of breathing air cascade systems for training exercises and emergency response scenarios.
- Educate personnel on the proper use and care of SCBA equipment and breathing air systems.
4. Training and Compliance:
-Conduct training sessions for firefighters on SCBA usage, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as industry standards related to SCBA and breathing air systems.
5. Inventory Management:
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of SCBA equipment, parts, and supplies, and coordinate with procurement for restocking as needed.
- Ensure that all equipment is stored properly and maintained in a clean and serviceable condition.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, training sessions, and inventory management.
- Prepare reports on equipment performance, safety issues, and maintenance activities as required.
7. Installation of new Cascade Systems
-Uncrating and installing compressor, fill station and storage cylinders.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in respiratory protection systems or related field preferred.
- Experience in SCBA and breathing air compressor maintenance, firefighter, familiar with firefighting equipment.
- Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, and other relevant safety regulations and standards.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Willingness to work in various environments, including warm fire station bays.
Work Environment:
-Sitting at a workbench testing equipment.
-Testing SCBA’s in sometimes warm apparatus bays in a van.
-Servicing Breathing Air Compressors.
