PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Special Needs Ministry Assistant's primary responsibility is to create environments at their campus for families who have children with special needs to engage their children (birth through 12th grade) in Northview's Family Ministry. This is a part time position and reports to the Campus Northview Kids Director. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Ongoing Duties:

  • Gives Ministry Away
  • Identifies and develops leaders to partner with that can help meet the needs of the ministry
  • Recruits, trains, leads and motivates volunteers
  • Takes the initiative in building relationships, conducting informational/training sessions and showing appreciation to volunteers
  • Helps create and develop a culture within the ministry that embraces the values, purposes and directions of the Family Ministry
  • Works to be aware of families' needs; envisions, creates and plans for programs to meet these needs, always taking into consideration the future growth of the ministry
  • Attends a service each week to stay in tune with the direction of Northview and to continue to develop spiritually 
  • Prays regularly for Northview’s leadership
  • Strives to improve personal and professional skills by looking for and participating in learning opportunities
  • Pursues regular contact and relationship building with children and their parents
  • Ensures the safety of children by identifying and implementing appropriate risk management and training practices

 

Daily Duties:

  • Be available to volunteers and families for prayer requests or any personal needs they have
  • Communicates with Kids and Student Ministry leaders any updates, changes or ideas to help special needs children or parents within their ministry
  • Updates and edits volunteer schedule with notes and comments
  • Regularly communicates updates with parents about support strategies
  • Responds to email and voicemail within 24 hours

 

Weekly Duties:

  • Meets with Kids Director to debrief weekend and plan for future
  • Participates in weekly staff chapel
  • Creates and sends volunteer schedules
  • Communicates with volunteer team any changes or updates about the weekend services
  • Meets, interviews, trains and places new volunteers into appropriate serving positions within the ministry based on volunteer’s abilities and experience
  • Trains volunteers for special events childcare  

 

Bi-Monthly Duties: 

  • Leads in the efforts to follow-up with absent volunteers
  • Follows up with new and retiring volunteers
  • Attends Campus Staff meetings twice per month (Tuesday, 9:30-11:30 AM)

 

Monthly Duties:

  • Creates and sends monthly schedule to volunteers and ministry team
  • Monitors classrooms/environments for ways to improve experience for kids and volunteers
  • Foster relationships with community organizations as special needs support partners 

 

As Needed Duties:

  • Helps support GraceWorks families for FX events
  • Host special needs ministry parent open house
  • Attend and support the annual special needs ministry summer camp

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position works with volunteers and must have an understanding that volunteers are key to the ministry of the church. The employee must have a heart to recruit, train, equip and support volunteers in fulfilling their roles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a related field plus one to three years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Related experience would include working with kids with special needs, running programs, and a therapy or counseling background.  Must have a good understanding of the different spectrums of autism and other disabilities.
