PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

 

The Special Needs/Elementary Coordinator’s responsibility is to create environments at the Fishers Campus for all children in Sensory and Elementary classrooms in Northview’s Family ministry.  This is an hourly non-exempt part-time (20 hours/week) position in the Family Ministry and reports to the Northview Kids Director.

 

ESSENTIAL MITS (Most Important Tasks):

 

  1. Be A Consistent Resource for Families- communicating on a weekly basis
  1. Personal Investment in EL and Special Needs Ministry Team Members
  1. Create a Safe and Engaging Weekend Service Environment for Individuals with Special Needs as well as contributing to the EL weekend experience.
  2. Participate In and Champion Special Needs Ministry Events (i.e. Mom's Night Out, Camp, Prom as hours allotted allows)
  3. Work in Collaboration with the Kid’s Director on Specific Campus Projects and Events Including, But Not Limited To…
    1. Family Framework Events
    2. Team Member Training Appreciation
    3. SOWO
    4. Summer Serve

 

 

Daily Duties:

  • Be available to volunteers and families for prayer requests or any personal needs they have
  • Communicates with families of special needs kids weekly
  • Updates and edits Volunteer schedule for EL and SN
  • Prepares and Sets-up classrooms with curriculum and supplies for EL and SN
  • Responds to emails and voicemails within 24 hours

 

 

Weekly Duties:

  • Creates and sends out weekend volunteer schedules through planning center
  • Communicates with families and volunteers' team any changes or updates about the weekend
  • Monitors classrooms/environments for ways to improve experience for kids and volunteers
  • Attends Fishers Staff and Kids Team meetings and contributes ideas and feedback
  • Meets, interviews, trains and places new volunteers into appropriate serving positions within the ministry based on volunteer’s abilities and experience

 

Monthly Duties:

  • Creates Monthly Volunteer Schedule and emails volunteers
  • Creates and sends monthly volunteer schedule to ministry team
  • Adapts curriculums as needed
  • Attends campus wide Staff Huddle and NV Kids Best practices,
  • Help plan Mom’s of SN night out

 

 

Annual Duties:

  • Meets and plans with Family Ministry Team to develop new volunteer recruitment techniques, best practice for classrooms, volunteer appreciation events, FX details, Family Milestone or Faith Journey, curriculum choices
  • Plans and runs annual trainings for new volunteers Elementary and Special Needs Ministry Volunteers
  • Participate In and Champion Special Needs Ministry Events (Camp, Prom as hours allotted allows)

 

 

As Needed Duties:

  • Performs related duties as assigned by Kids Director

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

This position works with volunteers and must have an understanding that volunteers are key to the ministry of the church, and the employee must have a heart to recruit, train, equip and support volunteers in fulfilling their roles

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one to three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant experience includes working with elementary-aged children and children with special needs. Must possess a strong understanding of the autism spectrum and various other developmental and physical disabilities.
