JOB POSITION TITLE: Research and Evaluation Associate 


Reports to: Research and Evaluation Manager 


Location: This position is hybrid with 3 days/week at Foundation offices and the Center for Health Equity.  This position may also be eligible for a remote work arrangement; certain conditions apply.

Position Overview: 


The Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg (the Foundation) has a bold mission to achieve health equity through race equity. We advance anti-racist practices and policies to improve the lives of all Pinellas County residents, and our employees are passionate about this shared purpose. 


The Research and Evaluation (R&E) Associate will serve as a member of the Learning Team. The Learning Team is responsible for research, evaluation, and learning initiatives of the Foundation, including funded projects and programs. The R&E Associate will support overall organizational learning through data analysis, literature reviews, written reports, and other research and evaluation activities. The R&E Associate will be responsible for handling multiple evaluation and research projects at a time and be responsive to both internal and external evaluation needs.  


The ideal candidate for this position is a determined and creative problem solver with a passion for social justice and a commitment to using research and evaluation in the service of race equity. In addition, the candidate is detail-oriented and knows how to manage competing deadlines.  


The R&E Associate reports to the Research and Evaluation Manager and collaborates with other members of the Foundation team, as well as with external partners. 


Responsibilities: 


Primarily responsible for... 


  • Internal and External Evaluation: Work with the Research and Evaluation Manager to create evaluation plans for both internal use and with funded partners. Evaluation planning includes identifying key evaluation questions, mapping out theories of change, outlining key indicators, developing outcomes, and choosing appropriate evaluation frameworks and tools. Primary evaluation responsibilities will also include: 

  • Research Tool Development: Select or design appropriate culturally relevant research and evaluation tools for both internal and external projects. Includes creating surveys and other tools for Center for Health Equity events. 

  • Data Collection: Collect and manage both qualitative and quantitative data across Foundation projects, including Center for Health Equity events, for internal evaluation, external evaluation, and research studies. 

  • Data Analysis: Conduct statistical analysis of programmatic data. 

  • Literature Reviews: Conduct literature reviews on relevant research to support ongoing Foundation and funded projects. Research best practices for achieving race equity in various sectors. 


Partners/Assists with... 


  • Research and Evaluation Reporting: Assist the Research and Evaluation Manager in drafting annual reports, research briefs, and evaluation reports. Collaborate with other staff members to translate research and evaluation findings into digestible and understandable communications for dissemination to diverse audiences. 


Also expected to... 


  • Data integrity. Ensure Foundation data is accurate and updated for areas related to role, including but not limited to the Foundation’s CRM, grantmaking system, and project management system. 

  • Special projects and other responsibilities: The Foundation has a small and nimble staff which supports each other’s work across departmental lines. Staff are expected to assist team members during peak periods as needed.  



Qualifications and Skills: 


  • Master’s degree in psychology, sociology, public health, health sciences or a related field preferred OR a bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience working in a research or evaluation-related position. 


  • Experience in equitable evaluation, culturally responsive evaluation, community-based participatory research, and related frameworks. 

  • Experience with research methods, as well as research and evaluation study design 

  • Experience with survey development and administration and survey analysis 

  • Experience with report design and writing 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, specifically the ability to present analytical information to supervisors, funded partners, and other stakeholders in a concise, understandable way 


  • Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment. Possesses strong critical thinking skills with an ability to find new ways of solving old problems. 

  • Proven ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment. 

  • Able to organize, prioritize multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a time-sensitive environment. 

  • Software proficiency: 


  • Required: Demonstrated skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications. Experience using quantitative software (i.e., SPSS, R, SAS). 


  • Preferred: Asana (project management), Experience with qualitative analysis software (i.e., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, MAXQDA), data visualization software (Tableau) 

  • A plusFluxx (grant management), CRM platforms, CVENT (event management), ArcGIS 


  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends.
