Main Street Wholesale Meats is looking for a skilled Butcher or Apprentice to join our team! Family-owned and operated for three generations, our company is continuously growing—join us in providing the finest meats since 1946!
Our Butchers are responsible for cutting, trimming, and preparing portions of meat for both our wholesale distribution division and for use in our retail store.
Wholesale Butcher Responsibilities
- Cut, trim, de-bone, tie, and grind meats, using butcher's cutlery and powered equipment, such as electric grinder and band saw
- Cut, trim, and de-bone sub-primal cuts using knives, cleaver, and band saw, to reduce to cooking cuts, such as roasts, steaks, chops, stew cubes, and grinding meat
- Cut and weigh steaks and chops for individual servings
- Shape and tie roasts
- Maintain clean and organized work station, back room, storage, and surrounding areas
- Follow all guidelines and procedures as outlined in the health and safety policy manual
Job Qualifications
- At least 3 years of related experience, or willingness to learn
- Ability to lift heavy objects
- Ability to perform work in colder temperatures
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
- Strong verbal skills
- Experience with cutting equipment, or willingness to learn
Skills
- General knowledge of meat products, prime cuts, and how to break down into parts
- Understanding of product dating and inventory control
- Basic math skills
- Proficient in the use of cutting equipment
- Excellent customer service
- Active listening
- Bilingual a plus
