POSITION SUMMARY 
The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant prepares and presents investigations and demonstrations, and participates in other activities to further the educational goals of the Science Center by performing the following duties.

The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant assists the Lead Instructor in the implementation of services within the Learning Division at Arizona Science Center to inspire, educate, and engage curious minds through science, and to advance educational leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and student engagement for success in learning. The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant will prepare and assist in presenting fun, engaging investigations and demonstrations during seasonal camp programs that foster inquiry and research-based learning. The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant will be in a classroom assisting in the supervision of a group of 15-25 school-aged guests. On occasion, the Summer Camp Onsite Assistant may be required to travel to different parts of the state to support offsite camps due to staff shortage, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances. The Summer Camp Onsite Assistant will participate in other activities to further the educational goals of the Science Center.

MANDATORY TRAINING DATES AND SCHEDULING EXPECTATIONS
If hired, individuals are required to attend one of the two virtual training sessions offered and the entirety of the week-long in-person training session before the start of the summer camp season. The dates are as follows:
•    Saturday, April 27, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Virtual Training Option 1
•    Saturday, May 4, from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m., Virtual Training Option 2
•    Tuesday, May 28-Friday, May 31 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., In-Person Training
•    Wednesday, May 29, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Family Orientation Night
•    Wednesday, July 3, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Family Orientation Night

If hired, individuals must be available to work a minimum of four out of eight camp week sessions, with the ability to work more than the minimum preferred. Each camp week runs Monday through Friday, except for the 4th of July week, with scheduling from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. daily or 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. daily. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
•    Creates a fun, enjoyable, and safe camp experience for children grades 1-12 by leading them through games, activities, experiments, and investigations that foster inquiry and research-based learning
•    Helps in preparing daily activities including using instructional materials, creative ideas, and assigned supplies
•    Sets up classroom for activities and cleans up after activities by cleaning tables, floors, counters, and chairs
•    Assists the onsite Camp Instructor in supervising activities and monitoring children’s behaviors to ensure safety and appropriateness
•    Always knows how many campers are in a group and consistently checks to make sure all children are accounted for
•    Communicates with co-workers and Science Center team members in a professional and respectful manner
•    Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as needed

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Working with children; public speaking/theater background; general ability to engage members of the public in conversation; an interest in and enthusiasm for science and working with children.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be a minimum of 16 years of age on the date of hire and able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
