SUMMARY
Arizona Science Center is seeking a sales and customer service oriented leader to be the Retail Manager of its ScienceShop. The Retail Manager leads ScienceShop, Arizona Science Center’s retail operation, to help generate contributed revenues and enhance the Science Center brand and guest experience. We seek an energetic manager with a strong vision to move ScienceShop forward both onsite and through ecommerce and satellite locations. The Retail Manager plays a key role in providing excellent service to all guests, thereby increasing visitation satisfaction.
A creative and strategic leader, the successful Retail Manager will oversee all aspects of ScienceShop, including purchasing a curated selection of appropriate goods, developing engaging promotions and merchandising, upholding inventory controls, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting, and training ScienceShop staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
● Developing strategies, plans, policies, and standards for the ScienceShop retail program to meet or exceed revenue goals and successfully carry out the retail business plan.
● Managing annual retail expense budget.
● Sourcing and testing new product offerings to enhance the value of visitation through concessions and retail purchases.
● Maintaining relationships with appropriate vendors.
● Planning and executing selling events and opportunities to deepen engagement with existing and new audiences.
● Providing next-level customer service on-site, over the phone, and via digital communications to Guests.
● Directing sales activities and provide reporting of retail activity.
● Training team members scheduled to work at ScienceShop to excel at serving guests and create memorable experiences through retail.
● Working with the marketing department to develop, execute, and evaluate sales and promotional strategies to meet goals.
● Work with the finance and analytics team to ensure sales are properly recorded and used to optimize retail decision-making.
● Playing a critical role in helping create a positive, inspiring culture that makes Arizona Science Center one of the best places to work.
● Performing other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Supervises ScienceShop and team members and volunteers as assigned.
● Maintains schedules and coverage for ScienceShop.
● Serves as the primary guest-facing manager and sales representative.
● Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
● Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and ability required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
● Experience with data-driven sales and customer relationship platform technology (e.g., Tessitura, SalesVu, Shopify).
● Strong project management skills, comfortable with competing deadlines and multitasking.
● Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
● Organized and efficient.
● Experience with financial planning and reporting (departmental level).
● Creative problem solver who can work independently and within a team environment.
● Passionate about customer service culture.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
● 3+ years of retail management experience in a customer service and sales-focused role or equivalent combination of education/experience.
● Museum retail experience is a plus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
