Overall, Purpose of this Role: This unpaid internship opportunity is to provide on the job training to current college student(s) receiving college credit. Interns will gain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in their field of study, while being mentored to help with learning and carrying out the assignments given. The VRC Intern will assist the VRC team with planning and coordinating annual volunteer events such as Thanksgiving Project, Week of Action, Share the Love, Alternative Spring Break, and Community Baby Shower. This also includes assisting with community and corporate volunteer opportunities and recruitment, planning and assisting with special projects. This position includes helping streamline the department’s procedures and processes through a service-learning project.
Key Assignments:
Identify a challenge in the Volunteer Resource Center’s structure, recruitment, training, evaluation, retention, and/or risk management and create a plan that provides recommendations and best practices.
Serve in a lead role at in person corporate/community volunteer events by guiding volunteers through their assigned roles (minimum 3 events up to 15 events)
Develop and maintain lists of volunteer organizations and community contacts via SharePoint
Recommend and create at least 2 standard operating procedures to help streamline processes for volunteer events
Help manage volunteer outreach and write volunteer opportunities via HFUW’s volunteer management database
Maintain filing and record-keeping systems to ensure proper and timely handling of all volunteer related correspondence, documents, and materials
Ensure VRC inventory is up to date and HFUW staff members are utilizing the checkout/check in process correctly.
Assist with data entry and ensure data quality of volunteer statistics
Direct individuals inquiring about general volunteer opportunities in the community, including the HFUW volunteer website
Help with VRC event preparation including packing, set up, and breakdown
Take pictures and videos of volunteer events to share with Marketing
Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:
Active student working toward a degree in a related field (non-profit management, public administration or other relevant major)
Qualifications:
Customer service-related experience preferred, must exhibit passion for/interest in non-profit related work.
Excellent listening and oral communication
Must be able to take initiative and work inter-dependently
Must work well in a team environment
Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of various computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
Time Commitment Demands:
15-20 hours per week (more available if required by internship program)
Available days Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm (exact shift will vary based on student schedule)
While the majority of time will be in a regular work day schedule, nights and weekends will occur. Total time over the week will be adjusted based on the event schedule.
Internship is hybrid with regular onsite presence during events as needed.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending, occasional lifting of items weighing up to approximately 25 pounds, regularly moving throughout the building between floors, traveling to outside meetings, regular use of standard office equipment such as the telephone, copier, fax and computer. Demands also involve protracted concentration. Reliable transportation is required. Job involves frequent interactions with internal and external customers, and routinely intense public contact.
