Overall Purpose of this Role: This internship opportunity is to provide on the job training to current college student(s) receiving college credit in the area of Human Resources.  The HR Intern will be responsible for learning the skills and abilities necessary to support the HR department in areas such as recruitment, hiring & onboarding, training & development, compliance, administration, offboarding, leave management and employee relations.

 

Key Assignments:

  • ·       Administration – provide administrative support with creating and maintaining electronic employee files, data entry, conducting employment verifications, data collection for special projects, reserving meeting rooms, event planning & execution, preparing employee correspondence, other administrative support, as needed for SVP of HR, HR Business Partner, & Business Operations Coordinator.

·     

  •           Hiring & Onboarding – conduct background checks & drug tests, conduct reference checks, collect new hire & internship documents, coordinate equipment pickup with IT, assist with new hire orientation presentations, send new hire accouchements.
  • Recruiting – coordinate & attend recruiting & diversity events, schedule phone screens & interviews, update job postings.
  • Training & Development – assist with coordination and execution of training and development activities within HR, DEI, and other departments, as needed.
  • Compliance – Follow and support all state & national laws, as well as internal HFUW policies and procedures.
  • Off-boarding – communicate with staff & IT, collect returned equipment.
  • Leave Management – track employees on leave for paperwork and return status.

  • Employee Relations – assist the HR Business Partner with employee relations issues, as needed.  Develop a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, and partners. 
  • People Strategy – Support SVP, Human Resources in identifying, reviewing and recommending best practice enhancements to policies, procedures, systems and services offered internally at the organization.

Education & Experience:

·       Currently pursuing a degree in the Human Resources field.

·       Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)

·       Ability to uphold the highest level of confidentiality.

·       Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal & written) skills.

·       Ability to demonstrate professionalism, composure, and diplomacy in any situation.

·       Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

·       Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. 

 

Physical Demands:

Physical demands include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending, occasional lifting of items weighing up to approximately 25 pounds, regularly moving throughout the building between floors, traveling to outside meetings, regular use of standard office equipment such as the telephone, copier, fax and computer.  Demands also involve protracted concentration.  Reliable transportation is required.  Job involves frequent interactions with internal and external customers, and routinely intense public contact.
