Overall Purpose of this Role: To perform complex detailed accounting and financial applications in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, Heart of Florida United Way guidelines, and United Way World Wide membership requirements.

Key Accountabilities:

·        Work under the general direction of the Controller to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and continued automation of activities.

·        Provide project management, financial management and reporting support to the Controller.

·        Review and approve bi-weekly payroll from PEO and record payroll entries into the accounting system.

·        Reconcile multiple bank accounts and monitor outstanding checks for each of the accounts.

·        Review accuracy of interest and fee structure on bank produced analysis statements and follow-up on irregularities.

·        Monitor cash balances on all accounts and prepare monthly operating cash flow analysis.

·        Prepare investment schedules, monitor returns, record valuation changes into the general ledger and ensure compliance with investment policies.

·        Coordinate stock donation transfers, acknowledgements, valuations and entries into the general ledger.

·        Update fixed asset/depreciation schedule, and prepare and file annual tangible tax return.

·        Allocate and adjust MAAClink funds and reconcile client database transactions from multiple funds to the general ledger.

·        Maintain integrity of general ledger account segments and reconcile all general ledger sub-ledgers.

·        Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting data and analyzing various general ledger accounts.

·        Prepare routine and adjusting journal entries as needed to maintain integrity of general ledger.

·        Research, analyze and report campaign collections trends on a monthly basis.

·        Assist with month end close and automated financial reporting.

·        Prepare monthly revenue and expense reports for program activities or cost centers and analyze and interpret results.

·        Prepare budget, financial data, and periodic invoicing for grants and contracts; monitor activities/restrictions to ensure accurate classification and compliance with financial requirements.

·        Assist with the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets, monthly expenditure tracking, and researching and updating variance analysis.

·        Track and summarize key performance indicators to include financial dashboards, charts, and graphs.

·        Assist with long term financial forecasting and return on investment analysis.

·        Prepare special project financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends.

·        Provide accounting support to other departments to include answering procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.

·        Assist with the preparation, analysis, and provision of schedules to the external auditors for the annual financial, 401k, and Form 990.

·        Participate in compiling data requested for other periodic regulatory audits or program/financial monitoring.

·        Establish, maintain, and monitor various accounting internal controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.

·        Document and maintain standard operating procedures for key financial processes.

·        Adhere to internal control structure as well as any government/grant financial compliance regulations.

·        Provide finance support to organizational special events.

·        Maintain transactional and system knowledge of payables to assist in periods of high volume work-loads or unanticipated staff absences.

·        Contribute to the overall organizational success by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

·        Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

·        Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.

·        Four to five years of progressive experience in the field of accounting and financial reporting.

·        Prior non-profit experience helpful.

·        Advanced knowledge of computer applications using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.  Experience in MIP accounting software, Andar donor database and MAACLink software preferred.

·        Strong attention to detail, quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills.

·        Ability to handle competing high volume tasks or projects.

·        Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical demands include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, bending, occasional lifting of items weighing up to approximately 25 pounds, regularly moving throughout the building between floors, traveling to outside meetings, regular use of standard office equipment such as the telephone, copier, fax and computer.  Demands also involve protracted concentration.  Reliable transportation is required.  Job involves frequent interactions with internal and external customers, and routinely intense public contact.
