POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assembly and Service Technician is a full-time, day-shift role based in San Rafael, CA, on the Manufacturing – Assembly and Service team. This position focuses on a combination of assembly, production, and service/field support work.
The technician will assemble and test electro-mechanical devices, follow written and verbal instructions, and support quality assurance and continuous improvement efforts within production. They will also perform depot-level repairs and provide field support to customers, including installations, updates, repairs, and troubleshooting.
The role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, flexibility, and professionalism. This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and must be cleared by the Clinical Department to operate the Ekso Bionics suite of products.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assembly & Production
- Read, comprehend, and interpret technical instructions, assembly drawings, and process documentation.
- Prepare work to be accomplished by studying instructions, gathering parts, subassemblies, tools and materials.
- Perform set-up and verification of equipment and processes.
- Select or modify components according to measurements and specifications.
- Use hand and power tools to assemble, repair, and test products and components.
- Inspect components and assemblies for quality assurance, perform diagnostic tests on assembled products, and make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with standards.
- Troubleshoot assembly issues, ensure products meet established standards, and escalate problems when necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and report any safety, quality, or procedural issues.
- Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines, supporting a cooperative and efficient work environment.
- Contribute to team goals by meeting deadlines and production targets.
Service and Field Support
- When requested or during periods of production downtime, perform repair, update, or upgrade work on equipment in accordance with established process instructions.
- Perform depot-level repairs and provide field support to customers, including installations, updates, repairs, and troubleshooting on all Ekso Bionics product offerings.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance and complete necessary documentation.
- Troubleshoot problems in the field and provide feedback to internal teams.
- Conduct necessary tests, update device configurations, and perform calibrations to ensure equipment meets Ekso Bionics standards.
- Communicate effectively with customers as a professional representative of Ekso Bionics.
- Provide input to cross-functional teams regarding opportunities for product or process improvement.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform routine maintenance on assembly equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality control protocols.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment, including assigned equipment and tools.
- Perform other duties as required and/or directed by management.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- 2 - 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, assembly, or service of electro-mechanical devices.
- Proficiency in reading and following schematics, technical prints, and assembly documentation.
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical assemblies, soldering, and diagnostic testing (solder certification preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting skills at the mechanical, electrical, and software level.
- Capable of working independently, making decisions, and knowing when to escalate or seek additional resources.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Salesforce, and Teamcenter, with Infor experience considered a plus.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, video) for technical and customer-facing interactions.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Travel flexibility (domestic and international) when required.
EDUCATION:
- High School diploma preferred, or equivalent experience required.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and passport required.
