Position & Responsibilities:

ActivTrak is looking for an engineering manager to serve as the technical lead and people manager of our newly forming Tier 3 support team. As an engineering manager, you will create a team culture that engages team members and keeps them focused on resolving customer issues, handling escalations, and building technical capital in our application. This position reports to the engineering organization. As an Engineering Manager, we're more interested in your experience with leadership than your experience with specific languages, although you should also be prepared, excited, and capable of rolling up your sleeves and being hands-on with the code at times (e.g. helping to fix a bug, weighing in on architecture decisions, etc). You will work closely with support engineers, other developers, product management, and engineering leadership to ensure the quality of our application and customer happiness in support of our company vision. We run an advanced cloud-native application that supports hundreds of millions of events per day, leverages our petabyte+ of existing data, and supports our 150,000+ users as we disrupt the productivity analytics industry. We need your help to continue to grow.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience leading, coaching, and mentoring a team of software engineers.

  • Giving constructive feedback to help your direct reports grow in their careers.

  • Improving software delivery and operational processes, both within the team and working with peers in management across the department.

  • Collaborating with Product, Design, and Engineering leads to ensure consistent and high-quality software delivery.

  • Serving as a force multiplier to help others do their best work.

  • Representing your team in management and department- and company-wide meetings.

  • Joining an on-call rotation to respond alongside engineers to rare instances of downtime.

  • An interest in promoting an inclusive team culture where engineers of diverse backgrounds can grow and contribute.

  • A willingness and desire to build teams that others will learn from.

  • Ability to patterns match and categorize separate incidents to identify common root causes.

  • Ability to prioritize incidents in order to resolve our most significant issues first.

  • Ideally managed or worked with a distributed or hybrid distributed/collocated team.

  • Ideally, you have experience with at least one of the following C#, React, or Python.
