Within the MENA (Middle East North Africa) or APAC (Asia-Pacific) regions, the Business Development Manager works to improve Affygility Solutions’ market position and achieve financial growth. Working primarily with the Head of Marketing and Growth, this person collaboratively assists in defining long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships in the region, identifies business opportunities, and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions. To achieve this purpose, the Business Development Manager needs to identify potential new customers, develop relationships with them, present to them, and continue to grow the lead and prospect pipeline. This requires a thorough knowledge of the life science and pharmaceutical industry, the solutions/services that Affygility Solutions can provide, and the company’s key competitors. While the exact responsibilities will vary, the main duties can be summarized as follows:

Duties and Responsibilities

New business development

  • Prospects for potential new clients (“prospects”) and turn this into increased business.
  • Within their geographical region, meets with prospects by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Identify prospects and the decision-makers within the organization.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Plan approaches and pitches. Work primarily with the Head of Marketing and Growth to develop proposals that address the client’s needs, concerns, and objectives.
  • Participates in pricing the solution/service.
  • Handles objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements, and working through differences to a positive conclusion. Use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.

Client Retention

  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.
  • Work with technical staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs.
  • Arrange and participate in internal and external client debriefs

Business Development Planning

  • Attends regional industry functions, such as association events and conferences, and provides feedback and information on market trends. This may require attendance at events that are outside of the normal workday.
  • Present to and consult with mid- and senior-level management on business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
  • Using knowledge of the market and competitors, assist in identifying and developing the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.

Management and Research

  • Ensure that timely prospecting data is accurately entered and managed within Affygility Solutions’ customer relationship management (CRM) system, currently Salesforce.
  • Participates in sales forecasting meetings and planning to establish sales targets.
  • Track and record activity on accounts and help to close deals to meet these targets.
  • Ensure all team members represent the company in the best light.
  • Participates in periodic pipeline review meetings.

Education

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in a scientific-related field.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of three years of sales/business development experience in the life science and pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of the life science and pharmaceutical industry and its current events.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication. Must pass English proficiency and grammar test. Additional language(s) a plus.
  • Ability to prepare and conduct presentations to prospective clients.
  • Comfortable with using customer relationship management systems (preferably Salesforce) and communication tools (email, Slack, Zoom, WebEx).
  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Self-starter and the ability to work independently.
  • Have strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organization. Skill in prioritizing and triaging obligations.
  • Ability to solve tough problems.
  • Ability to handle internal/external pressure and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions and Hours

This is primarily a virtual position based in either Dubai, UAE, Singapore or Seoul, South Korea. Attendance at regional industry functions, such as association events and conferences, which may require participation and travel outside of the normal workday.

Standard schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, typically 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. Some calls, meetings and business travel may be outside of normal work hours depending on time zones, locations, and schedules.

When visiting client facilities, the Business Development Manager may be required to wear client-manded personal protective equipment such as disposable coveralls, hair nets, shoe covers, and safety glasses.

Physical Requirements

This is primarily a sedentary, work from home office job with the majority of the workday spent working at a computer 👩🏻‍💻. When attending seminars and conferences, extended hours can be spent walking and standing. Must be able to periodically travel via airplane ✈️ on flights typically 6 hours in duration or more.
