Who we are

Since 2002, Affygility Solutions has provided occupational toxicology and industrial hygiene services to the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device industry. Our services include the Affytrac EHS management tool, OEL Fastrac instantly-downloadable OEL/ADE/PDE monographs, online training seminars, potent compound safety and categorization, occupational exposure limits, toxicology services and more. We've provided these services to pharmaceutical companies in over 65 countries. All of the occupational toxicology and industrial hygiene professionals at Affygility Solutions have many years of professional and hands-on life science industry experience.

Affygility Solutions is recruiting for a Head of Growth and Marketing to join our team. This is a 100% remote position, and the successful applicant can work from their desired location in the United States or Canada (Quebec only) as part of a high-performing, globally distributed team.

While Affygility Solutions has been in business for over eighteen years, we still respond to customer and market demands like a startup, so are looking for people who are comfortable with ambiguity, rapid growth, and having wide impact. This is a leadership position and requires direct experience with managing sales and marketing staff. In addition, we require a solid understanding of digital B2B marketing and growth processes.

Role overview

First and foremost, we're looking for people who are excited about what we're doing—you don't need to know anything about toxicology or the pharmaceutical industry; but should be excited to learn. More than a specific set of skills, we're looking for someone that (1) has the experience/work ethic to drive your own work (2) understands that good employees do what you tell them to do, great employees tell you what they need to do. We are disruptors in the industry, so you'll be able to use creativity to help us solve complex problems and amaze our customers.

Almost everyone on our team has a technical background, so this will be our first major non-technical hire, which means you'll have a wide range of responsibilities within marketing and growth. We've listed a few things you'll be responsible for below, but it will also be your job to determine which of these we should spend resources on and which we should not. You will ultimately be in charge of not only allocating the marketing budget, but also in determining how large the marketing budget should be.

Scaling out the marketing and growth team
Ownership of revenue
Affiliate marketing
Offline marketing
Webinars
Press strategy
Content strategy
Performance marketing
Social media strategy

This list is not exhaustive at all, and you'll have a lot of autonomy over your work. Ultimately, we're looking for someone with enough experience to tell us what we need to do to be successful — not someone that we assign to various marketing tasks. We are looking for a leader.

Why you might be excited about us

  • We're working to solve a complex regulatory problem and helping the pharmaceutical industry be more efficient in protecting employees and patients.
  • We're small, but have a large client base, so you'll be able to contribute efficiently and without bureaucracy. You'll quickly have responsibility over big areas of our product.
  • We don't have a lot of meetings. If we can effectively solve a problem asynchronously, we do. When we do meet synchronously, you'll always have the opportunity to contribute.
  • Direct communication with the CEO.
  • Our team has a wide range of experiences and are excited to learn from you, too.
  • You'll be able to work remotely and set your own schedule. We don't micromanage and will help you do great work.
  • We'll mold your role to shape a career you're excited about. We care a ton about your satisfaction and job happiness, and we will help prep you for whatever you're looking for in the future.

Why you might not be excited about us

  • We're small (~12 people in the company now), so if you like more established companies, it's not (yet) the right time.
  • You'll be expected to be a leader and mentor younger/less experience staff.
  • Since we respond to customer and market demands like an early stage startup, projects and priorities may shift. If you can't handle shifting priorities, this may not be the right job for you.
  • We can't provide close mentorship, as we're looking for someone who is already a leader.
  • Since you'll have a lot of responsibility and creativity over projects, they may not be defined perfectly initially.
  • You'll be expected to bring your own experience and perspective to help us do the right things and raise flags if you think we should do things differently.

About You

None of these are requirements, but do describe the kinds of people that we think would be most effective at Affygility Solutions right now.

  • Are obsessed with  thinking broadly and creatively about problems and how to solve them efficiently.
  • Worked remotely before or know that you'd work well with a remote team.
  • Understands the cultural differences of international markets.
  • Understands systems, process and how to scale a team
  • Has experience managing other people. Is comfortable providing candid feedback to direct reports.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to monitor, analyze and measure experiment results.
  • Familiarity with common tools of the trade.
  • Excited for a front-row seat into a fast-growing company. Things will change a lot!
  • Enjoy thinking through trade-offs, with both mindfulness of short-term needs and our long-term direction.
  • Know how to scale and that you're never a single-source-of-failure. We're too small to have silos.
  • Prior startup accelerator program experience (Y Combinator, Techstars, 500 Startups, etc.) a plus.
