Sr. Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist

Essential Job Functions

The Sr. Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist will leverage their expertise and strong programming skills to creatively tackle problems and build pipelines underpinning our technological platform. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with R&D scientists, analyzing data and generating insights. As a senior employee, he/she will be a leader on the team. Communicate with cross-functional teams to understand needs and discuss potential solutions

Develop bioinformatic pipelines that deliver key results for Artisan’s molecular biology platform

Balance evaluation, integration, and extension of existing tools with novel development

Run analysis pipelines on next generation sequencing (NGS) data generated from CRISPR editing assays and work closely with research teams to deliver insights and recommendations to decision makers

Use advanced statistical modelling to estimate CRISPR editing performance

Perform and document analyses in support of regulatory filings for new CRISPR cell therapies

Write production-level code using best practices, including version control, unit tests, and CI/CD

Convert research prototype scripts into robust scientific software optimized for performance, scalability, and adherence to coding best practices

Creatively troubleshoot issues, implement test cases, and fix bugs

 

Education & Experience

M.S or Ph.D. in quantitative or basic science (computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, statistics, or mathematics preferred) 

Minimum 5+ years professional experience with NGS focus

Enthusiasm and energy for creating therapeutics that improve patient outcomes

Genomics expertise; Familiarity with molecular biology (especially gene editing and CRISPR)

Statistical knowledge and experience applying it to genomic data

Experience with state-of-the-art NGS technologies and associated databases

Experience with common bioinformatics tools (e.g., BWA, BEDtools, GATK) 

Ability to develop custom tools in common bioinformatic programming languages (Python & R)  

Understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, efficient readable code) and experience with software development best practices (writing unit tests, version control, etc.)

Proficiency with large-scale genomic data in a Linux and/or cloud environment

Outstanding communication skills, including research report writing, code documentation, and oral presentation, with excellent attention to detail

Deep understanding of how to manage and document sensitive and confidential situations and materials including Intellectual Property.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

      Position will have up to 3 direct reports
