Laboratory Data Engineer

Essential Job Functions
The Laboratory Data Engineer will be responsible for implementation, configuration, administration, and communication of laboratory data solutions. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with R&D scientists, software engineers, and data scientists to spearhead creative approaches to data management and engineering. Configure and guide development of a laboratory information management system (LIMS) to support research and development
Collaborate with researchers to design and construct fit-for-purpose data management systems
Assist with development of a data warehouse to facilitate analyses
Serve as a liaison between molecular biologists and engineers
Plan development roadmaps and give accurate time estimates based on system requirements
Maintain laboratory data management systems, tackling issues as they arise
Model data flows, documenting processes in written procedures
Write scripts and develop custom front end interfaces as able
Convey energy, accuracy and attention to detail, and a passion for creating therapeutics for improving patient outcomes
Education & Experience
M.S in a scientific field or an additional 4 years’ industry experience
Minimum 4 years professional experience in a life science organization
Expertise in designing, implementing, and administering a LIMS
Experience effectively collaborating with biologists and software engineers
Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics, and next generation sequencing (NGS)
Familiarity with data structures, relational databases, and APIs
Familiarity with software development fundamentals
Programming experience (JavaScript, Python) desired
Computer system validation experience desired
Outstanding communication skills, including research report writing, code documentation, and oral presentation, with excellent attention to detail
