DSD is seeking a versatile and experienced Solar and Energy Storage Category Manager to oversee procurement, supplier relationships, and inventory management within the solar and energy storage product categories. This role is pivotal in ensuring efficient operations, maintaining product availability, and driving cost savings initiatives.

A strong applicant will have a deep knowledge of the solar module industry and storage products DSD supports, be able to manage relationships with our third party logistics/warehouse providers, and be able to successfully lead technical considerations for the development and deployment of solar plus storage projects.  The ability to support several projects and project portfolios concurrently while sustaining rigorous attention to detail, and to adapt energy storage solutions quickly to emerging project-specific constraints and opportunities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and a track record of success through a previous position at a solar or energy storage developer.  Experience working with multiple functional groups on energy storage solutions, at a C&I solar or energy storage developer, is a plus.

This position will report to the Director of Strategic Procurement.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Category Management:
    • Develop and execute comprehensive category strategies for solar and energy storage products, aligned with business objectives and market dynamics.
    • Identify opportunities for product expansion, innovation, and differentiation within the category portfolio.
    • Monitor market trends, competitive activities, and technological advancements to inform strategic decision-making.
  1. Supplier Relationship Management:
    • Evaluate, onboard, and manage relationships with suppliers for solar and energy storage components.
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms on pricing, quality, and delivery.
    • Foster collaboration and alignment with suppliers to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  1. Inventory Management:
    • Utilize inventory management tools and techniques to record and report on allocations, shipments, and stock levels of assigned product categories and ‘Safe Harbor’ equipment needs.
    • Develop and maintain inventory control procedures, including cycle counting, replenishment strategies, and obsolescence management.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, and manage third-party logistics/warehousing partners, to forecast demand, plan procurement activities, and ensure product availability.
  1. Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Analyze inventory data, supplier performance metrics, and market insights to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
    • Prepare regular reports and dashboards to track category performance, inventory KPIs, and cost savings initiatives.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management for strategic decision-making.
  1. Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies related to procurement and inventory management.
    • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including supplier disruptions, quality issues, and geopolitical factors, i.e. tariffs
    • Communicate on core solar module and energy storage product spec sheets, install manuals, etc. and guide conversations about the products to internal teams (i.e. engineering, construction, etc.) as well as external entities (i.e. subcontractors, utilities, AHJs, etc.)

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CPSM) preferred.
  • Experience in procurement, category management, or inventory management within the solar, renewable energy, or related industries.
  • Proven track record of successful supplier relationship management, contract negotiation, and cost savings achievement.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analysis tools and inventory management systems.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in procurement and inventory management.
