Role Summary/Purpose: Project Management - will assist the Pre-Construction team and serve as the project manager during the pre-construction phase of DSD solar projects awarded. The Project Manager will have extensive estimating and project management experience as it relates to the construction of solar and energy storage projects in the US solar industry with a willingness to prepare projects for construction while not being engaged after mobilization. The candidate for this role will be a collaborative team player with exceptional communication skills and can work autonomously and self-directed. This position will report to the Director of Pre-Construction.
Essential Responsibilities: As the Project Manager, you will manage the execution for the design and build out of commercial solar projects with a focus on the following aspects:
- Assist with the project estimate, indicative schedules, equipment selection and construction execution strategy (schedule and contractor identification) for awarded and high traction projects as designated by origination, before the project manager locks costs at PPA contract execution/internal NTP via subcontractor/EPC agreements and equipment purchase order issuance.
- Build bid packages, collate bids and work with the PM and construction team on subcontractor selection, strategy, and relationships.
- Operate in lockstep with the origination/development/engineering teams to maintain a fresh estimate and execution strategy based on design updates prior to PPA execution to ensure that cost/schedule changes are being communicated internally and externally to the customer as appropriate.
- Provide visibility on up-to-date costs in DSD platforms and be able to effectively communicate schedule associated risks, outstanding development tasks and construction complications that can impact cost at DSD investment committee meetings.
- Manage to multiple deadlines, included but not limited to internal, customer and third-party requirements.
- Work closely with the estimating team to understand early-stage bidding assumptions before taking over the estimate responsibility as well as the Strategic Procurement team for up-to-date equipment pricing and availability.
- Constantly refresh cost estimates, execution strategies, and schedule constraints based on what is currently being constructed in the field.
- Coordinate with the Strategic Procurement, Canopy, and Construction teams to maintain current major equipment and subcontractor relationships respectively.
- Regularly report to manager on project updates.
- Develop new tools and collaborate on process improvement to increase the efficiency of DSD operations.
Qualifications/Requirements/Desired Characteristics
- Exceptional Communication Skills
- Project management experience in the solar industry
- Ability to work remotely and independently and be a self-starter
- General Construction experience
- High level of project construction knowledge of solar and energy storage, design, and installation standards across all project types inclusive of subcontractor relationships.
- Ability to travel
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or Construction Management or related field with 7-10 years of experience or equivalent.
- Demonstrated skills in project planning software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera, Estimating Software, Salesforce and Procore.)
- Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Project management, estimating or other experience in power generation industries
- Financial forecasting experience
