Distributed Solar Development, DSD, is a market leader in solar canopies and has been awarded several portfolios across the US to be built in 2022-2023. A high proportion of projects will require specialist supply chain knowledge and logistics expertise to meet project timings. There is an immediate need for a full time, salary-based senior Logistics Manager to join DSD’s dynamic team. This position will report directly to the VP of Strategic Procurement and Estimating, with daily collaboration with DSD’s in-house Canopy Team. The role may require travel and the ability to perform office work remotely.


To be successful in this role, you will need to have had several years direct experience in managing the flow of steel products and deliver a complete BOM (Bill of Materials) to support the complexity of solar canopy projects on time and on budget. You will need to be a process-driven individual who will liaise with DSD design, engineering, product, estimating, purchasing and construction teams and leverage new and existing external supply relationships. In maximizing value to DSD, the role will be tactical in day-to-day execution with a crucial strategic element in negotiating supply agreements and continuously evaluating performance of the supply and transportation network.


Our ideal candidate would have 10 or more years’ experience in commercial logistics and procurement activities and at least 5 years’ experience with the nuances of solar carport steel logistics at scale. Relationships with quality vendors across the US capable of meeting DSD standards and high volume needs of “Tier 1” transportation vendors would be an advantage. A proven ability to solve problems proactively and overcome challenges efficiently without adversely affecting safety, quality, cost, schedule, or relationships is essential. Candidates must have experience interpreting and acting upon the critical information on reports, drawings, and contracts.


This is a position that requires a strong work ethic, excellent communication, and the ability to follow through. Much of the success of a solar canopy construction project is determined at the procurement stage with critical logistics managed professionally. This demanding role will be very rewarding for an individual who relishes the challenge of preparing complex solar canopy projects properly so they can be completed on budget and in a timely fashion. Responsibilities

• Control and manage the logistics tracker for all canopy projects

• Build all truckloads and schedule dates according to project schedule, BOM, site/array layouts and weight restrictions of trucks.

• Create Truck Sequencing plans according to site layouts and build plans

• Plan and arrange trucking for all material from fabrication vendor to finishing vendor and confirm delivery to site with onsite construction team.

• Communicate and coordinate with PMO team and all vendors to ensure correct fabrication of materials and delivery accordingly to meet project schedules.

• Communicate with material vendors and trucking company daily to ensure and all projects are on track for scheduled delivery

• Solve any transportation problems or on-site issues that may arise

• Supply ongoing construction support for our onsite teams regarding fabrication and material.

• Arrange with LTL carrier for pick-up and delivery

• Track material to site, confirm delivery with onsite construction team and file BOL

• Release Steel vendors for fabrication after final drawings have been approved by PM/Designer

• Send RFP to trucking company on a per project basis and review and approve proposal with PM. File approved proposal.

• Review all trucking invoices

• Maintain PPLM (Project Planning Logistics Matrix)


Minimum Qualifications

• The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the work in the construction industry

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the logistics/freight industry

• Minimum of 5 years' working experience as a planner in the field of construction.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under daily, sometimes hourly deliverables

• Detail oriented and self-motivated

• Strong problem solver

• Experience in managing project communication and documentation

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team player

• Motivation and the ability to work independently

• Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Excel and purchasing software

• Experience in managing vendor relationships and fabrication of finished goods


Preferred Qualifications

• Construction experience in the steel industry or PV industry

• Basic understanding of the PV industry
