Distributed Solar Development, LLC (DSD) is seeking to fill the role of Solar Commissioning Technician in our quickly growing and industry leading team.  The Solar Commissioning Technician works closely with the project managers with a project nearing mechanical completion, configures the monitoring systems, reviews testing documentation, troubleshoots equipment and monitoring system issues, occasionally perform hands-on field work and prepares it for handoff to the asset management teams.


Responsibilities

Configure and troubleshoot:

• Commercial PV inverters

• 3-Phase electrical meters

• Industrial communications and Data Acquisitions Systems (DAS) using RS-485, Ethernet & fiber media.

• PV monitoring and other electrical equipment typical of commercial and utility PV systems

• Configure and maintain equipment communications and networking using RS-485, Ethernet & fiber media.

• Remotely troubleshoot technical issues while directing other individuals to make equipment adjustments in resolving problems.

• Use plant control and monitoring systems to remotely diagnose problems and monitor project performance.

• Understand and critically evaluate electrical testing documentation relating to equipment in solar PV plants.


Basic Qualifications

• HS/GED and 5 plus years of solar PV experience

• Strong work ethic, be a self-starter and work remotely with little to no supervision

• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

• Strong level of attention to detail and organization


Preferred Qualifications

• Electrician License (Journeyman or higher)

• Fully trained, certified, and deemed confident in maintenance and minor repair on typical PV system components, including but not limited to: string inverters, central inverters, array trackers, combiner boxes, and DAS equipment

• Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), and NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace)

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plan sets and one line diagrams as they pertain to PV solar installations

• Experience with SCADA equipment and SEL relays, reclosers and meters

• Experience with configuring and troubleshooting industrial communications (Ethernet routers and switches, MODBUS RS-485, etc)

• Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

• OSHA 30; NABCEP PV Installer certification; medium voltage experience

• Training on various powered lifts typical for the project requirements Working Conditions The person in this position will mostly work at a desk in an office or home-office environment, however, occasional work will be needed at PV project sites during and after construction, in weather conditions found at the project location. Some long days with occasional overnight travel may be required.

• Medium physical effort (lifting/moving up to 50 lbs.)

• Use full range of mobility in upper and lower body

• Work in various positions, including but not limited to stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time

• Work at heights greater than 10 feet

• Work on ladders of all types

• Work on scissor and bucket lifts on occasion

• Medium travel

• Working alone most of the time
