Distributed Solar Development, LLC (DSD) is seeking to fill the role of Technical Asset Manager to join our industry leading team.  In this role, you will work directly and cross-functionally with suppliers, construction, and engineering, to manage the operations and maintenance of our internal and external assets.  

The Technical Asset Manager role provides a great opportunity for your career in the solar industry. As we build out our portfolio of assets in the upcoming year, they need to manage and optimize the technical performance of our solar assets will be critical to our success.

The person in this position will work at a desk in an office or home-office environment, however, there will be some travel to “In operation” PV project sites.

What makes a great Technical Asset Manager?
O&M experience with commercial solar projects:
    1. Ability to configure and troubleshoot
    2. Commercial PV inverters 
    3. 3 phase electrical meters 
    4. DAS/Communication systems
    5. PV monitoring systems
    6. Use plant control and monitoring systems to diagnose problems and monitor project performance
    7. Experience with Remote access to equipment
    8. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings
    9. Ability to understand and critically evaluate electrical testing documentation relating to equipment in solar PV plants. 
    10. Strong communications skills and customer service focus with; internal teams, suppliers, and external customers
    11. Ability to be proactive and anticipate issues in advance
    12. Willingness to aid in the generation of better process and tools, creating initiatives to increase efficiencies
    13. Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and short turnarounds while sustaining rigorous attention to detail
    14. Self-motivated, fast learner, and excited to work in a collaborative team environment
    15. Comfort with thinking outside the box and patiently seeking for solutions when being challenged with tough problems
    16. Strong computer skills 


Responsibilities
  • Responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing commercial and industrial solar systems and associated equipment to ensure 100% customer satisfaction 
  • Responsible for all portfolio technical issues (remotely, in person field visits, 3rd party)
  • Troubleshooting of technical issues 
  • Carry out root cause on system failures.
  • Coordination of site access and protocol with DSD planner/asset manager
  • Documentation of work performed at site 
  • Maintaining safe working standards
  • Work closely with the suppliers to ensure planned and unplanned site visits are successful
  • Provide remote phone or in-person support to contractors when troubleshooting equipment at site
  • Contact manufacturers and work closely with them to troubleshoot, coordinate resources, and repair/replace defective equipment 
  • Work cross functionally with engineering, performance engineering, and construction to continuously to resolve complex issues and improve the overall performance of the sites
  • Identify repeatable issues for communication to the internal team 
  • Identify areas of potential technical improvement 
  • Identify and communicate best practices
  • At PV project sites, the person in this position:
  • Will wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety shoes, gloves and safety glasses at all times as required by the job tasks and conditions
  • Will need to work safely around high voltages and currents.
  • May need to perform work at various heights using ladders, aerial lifts, scaffolding, or other safe working platforms.
  • May need to climb ladders, stairs, work on rooftops and able to work on their feet for long periods of time and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Required Qualifications
  • Technical Diploma or bachelor’s degree in electricity, electronics, or a related field 
  • Safety practices and familiarity with NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements including LOTO, Arc Flash, etc. 
  • Strong electrical, electronic, communications and mechanical troubleshooting skills required for working with equipment found in commercial and utility PV plants 
  • Must have a valid state driver’s license and clean driving record. 
  • At least 2-years of field experience as an electrical technician 


Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as a solar technician (Commercial industrial) 
  • Experience in the renewable energy field 
  • Experience working with and troubleshooting SEL relays 
  • Experience working on and troubleshooting MV equipment 
  • Familiarity with Also Energy monitoring systems and platform
  • Familiarity with National Electric Code (NEC) as it relates to PV Plants 
  • Familiarity with remote string inverter platforms (such as SMA, Chint, and SolarEdge)

East Coast area preferred.  Remote options considered.
