Distributed Solar Development is seeking a Development Engineer to join our Canopy Team. This position will interact with clients and sales teams to perform early-stage designs for solar canopy systems at a variety of customer sites across the US, and transition designs to project engineering for later stage development.

• Prepare site layouts and single line diagrams for solar canopy systems using tools including Helioscope, SketchUp, and AutoCad

• Optimize PV system layout to deliver lowest project-specific levelized cost of energy (LCOE), considering electrical, structural, and code compliance priorities

• Complete thorough solar production assessments using PVsyst 

• Support utility interconnection and permitting application processes

• Perform detailed site visits to gather information required to perform project due diligence

• Represent Distributed Solar Development at RFP site walks and other client meetings

• Produce renderings of solar canopy systems in Sketchup for customer response documents and presentations

• Document best practices and design guidelines to standardize processes and train other engineers

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

• 1+ year of engineering experience

• Proficiency in Solar PV software modeling applications such as Helioscope, AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Microsoft Excel

• Proficiency in a 3D modeling program

• Experience with production modeling

• Basic knowledge of NEC

• Experience reading structural plans

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Strong team, communication, and collaboration skills

• 1+ years of solar industry experience

• Sketchup 3D modeling experience

• Presentation and customer interaction skills
