Solar Canopies Preconstruction Manager
Location: California, remote work locations considered.
Role Summary/Purpose
Distributed Solar Development, DSD, is a market leader in solar canopies and has been awarded several portfolios across the US to be built in 2021-2022, with a high proportion in California including DSA K-12 Schools. There is an immediate need for a full time, salary-based senior Preconstruction Manager to join DSD’s dynamic canopy team. Work location will be based in California and report directly to the VP of Canopy Design and Engineering. The role will require significant travel and the ability to perform office work remotely.
To be successful in this role, you will need to perform site assessments and work to gain client approvals of schematic designs efficiently, having evaluated site conditions and optimized preliminary designs for constructability. You will need to liaise with design, estimating, engineering, development and construction teams to drive all aspects of discretionary permitting and AHJ approvals, with the full support of DSD’s in-house teams and external partners.
Our ideal candidate would have 10 or more years experience in commercial construction in the state of California and at least 5 years experience with the nuances of solar carport installations. Familiarity with DSA and/or OSHPD regulations, as well as ADA-compliant accessibility, fire & life safety and Title 24 requirements would be an advantage. A proven ability to solve problems proactively and overcome challenges efficiently without adversely affecting safety, quality, cost or schedule is essential. Candidates must have experience interpreting and acting upon the critical information on surveys, drawings and reports.
This is a position that requires a strong work ethic, excellent communication and the ability to follow through. Much of the success of a solar canopy construction project is determined at the design and preconstruction stage. This demanding role will be very rewarding for an individual who relishes the challenge of preparing complex solar canopy projects properly so they can be completed on budget and in a timely fashion. You need to have
- 10 years of construction experience in the state of California
- Ability to extract and act upon critical information in drawings and reports
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Excel
- Strong technical background and the ability to leverage relationships with subject experts
