Structural CAD Drafter

Role Summary/Purpose
Distributed Solar Development, DSD, is a market leader in solar canopies and has been awarded several portfolios across the US to be built in 2021-2022. There is an immediate need for a full time, salary-based Structural CAD drafter to join DSD’s dynamic canopy team. Work location will be in the New York City office under the supervision of the Drafting Supervisor and this will facilitate collaboration with other team members, clients and project sites.
To be successful in this role, you will need to assist DSD’s canopy design & engineering team in the execution of drawings and schematics for the construction of solar panel clad steel structures on parking lots and parking garages.
Our ideal candidate would have 5 or more years drafting in commercial construction and a familiarity with communication through detailed drawings. We would consider someone with other significant structural CAD drafting experience. Proficiency in producing construction documents using AutoCAD is essential. Candidates must have experience generating documents from design sketches through complete construction documents.
This is a position that requires a strong work ethic, willingness to learn and assist, to help complete projects in a timely fashion. Candidates only seeking qualifying hours under a licensed architect or freelance work need not apply, however DSD actively encourages and supports professional development to suit individual needs.
You need to have
- 3-5 years of experience in all phases of structural steel projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Excel
- Strong technical background and creative skills
- Motivation and the ability to work independently
- Capability to determine and meet deadlines
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a team environment
- Ability to adapt to changes in our industry
You’ll really stand out if you have
- Solar canopy experience
- Solar PV and/or steel building design experience
- Have experience in commercial construction
- Understand construction detailing
- Demonstrate ability to understand the general concepts of commercial architectural design
