Structured Finance Analyst

DSD: Incubated within GE for 7 years, DSD spun out as its own entity in 2019 with 80% ownership by BlackRock and 20% ownership from GE Renewable Energy. Backed by two powerful entities in renewable energy, it went on to raise its first $250M fund from Morgan Stanley, Fifth Third Bank and Silicon Valley bank to support tremendous project growth through 2020. Role Summary/Purpose: The Structured Finance Analyst supports day-to-day and long-term strategic goals of the team’s distributed solar project pricing, financing, and M&A efforts.

 

Introduction:

Distributed Solar Development, LLC (DSD) develops “C&I” solar and solar plus storage projects with municipalities, F500 companies, and utilities. The Analyst will work with deal teams and members of the Structured Finance team to respond to Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) pricing requests and work with deal teams, supporting the modeling of deal economics and analysis of market data throughout the project development cycle. The Analyst must be able to clearly synthesize & articulate market and deal data, helping to define the conditions leading to successful projects, and which future projects should be pursued.

 

A strong applicant will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have knowledge of or be able to rapidly learn the market and financial drivers of solar and energy storage project development. The Analyst must be able to support several projects and project portfolios concurrently while sustaining rigorous attention to detail.

 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and a track record of success through a previous position at a renewable energy developer or project finance bank.

 

Responsibilities:

-          Build and own solar PPA, purchase, and customer-facing savings financing models throughout the project development cycle. Navigate multi-stakeholder financial and contractual structures to maximize project-value to DSD and savings to the customer

 

-          Communicate key project economics to deal team and investment committee members as to how changes in cost, policy, or technical assumptions affect commercial terms and returns

 

-          Synthesize energy policy and energy market information to validate modeling assumptions, project structures and contract documents

 

-          Provide portfolio and project-level analysis for DSD investment committee and external investors

 

-          Support Tax Equity and Debt Fundraising with strategic negotiations and coordinating diligence; underwrite operating documents and financing agreements from paper to model

 

-          Actively pursue initiatives to develop new systems, project tools, and efficient processes for tracking, developing, and organizing financing and development deliverables

 

Qualifications / Requirements:

-          Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college

-          Minimum 4 years professional experience in energy development or structured finance

 

Desired Characteristics:

-          Professional or educational experience in solar energy, project finance, or renewable energy policy

-          Ability to communicate effectively across different business disciplines and topics

-          Organizational skills to manage multiple competing deadlines and short turnarounds

-          Excellent interpersonal & team environment skills

-          Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including: Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
