Location: Remote (likely candidate will be based in California and support projects in the Western US) 

 

Role Summary/Purpose   

Distributed Solar Development’s footprint in the Commercial Solar PV is rapidly expanding.  As a Field Technician you will primarily support construction activities related to the installation of DSD’s solar carports and garage top canopies.  The qualified candidate will work with site sub-contractors, surveyors, engineers and client representatives to ensure projects are installed safely and efficiently to DSD’s standards and specifications.  The ability to understand structural drawings, perform field measurements, resolve jobsite problems and communicate effectively with all stakeholders is essential.  With the full support of DSD’s carport team and benefits the broader company, DSD is seeking an organized individual to represent DSD in a professional manner and perform an important role in keeping projects on schedule and on budget.  You will join a team of dedicated solar professionals who are expanding an exciting market segment with an eye on quality, innovation and cost optimization to maximize customer value.

 

Essential Responsibilities

- Read and understand structural and architectural drawings, surveys and design documents

- Field verify critical measurements, red line drawings and communicate effectively with design engineers

- Review design, permit and construction drawings to identify potential constructability issues

- Understand steel erection plans and develop lifting/rigging, assembly sequence, staging and shake-out plans

- Support customer meetings as technical representative

- Manage delivery schedules and logistics

- Verify material quality upon arrival, document conformance and abnormalities

- Develop and maintain relationships with and capabilities of multiple sub-contractors and partners

- Verify elevations and positioning of columns and anchor bolts, develop work-arounds with design professionals

- Resolve jobsite problems quickly, efficiently and completely

- Oversee installation quality and ensure compliance with all special inspections

- Ensure mechanical completion, commissioning and performance testing is completed on schedule

- Issue close-out documents

- Capture lessons learned and provide improvement feedback to DSD team and sub-contractors to improve value

 

Qualifications/Requirements

- A college degree in mechanical/civil/structural engineering, and/or construction management is preferred  

- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in steel construction is required, 5 years with solar experience is preferred

General Requirements

- Demonstrated experience in construction industry – preferably with DSA/OSHPD solar canopy experience

- AutoCAD and Tekla experience, proficiency with drafting software is a plus

- General familiarity with NEC code, building codes, structural codes, etc – preferably with DSA/OSHPD process

- Familiarity with all MS Office products

- Project management, CRM and scheduling software knowledge and ability

- Strong analytical skills

- Technically self-sufficient and highly motivated

- Strong communication and presentation skills

- Excellent problem-solving ability

- Travel nationally for site evaluations, majority of travel will be regional
