Introduction
Distributed Solar Development, LLC (DSD) seeks a Commercial Analyst (“CA”) to join its growing team. DSD develops “C&I” solar and solar plus storage projects with municipalities, F500 companies, and utilities. The CA will work with deal teams to respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs), other price and technical proposals, and support modeling of deal economics throughout the project development and deployment cycles. The successful candidate will also drive several backend functions related to deal and market data management, as well as be able to clearly synthesize & articulate what market and deal data means, helping to define the conditions that are leading to success, and what future projects should be pursued.
A strong applicant will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and have knowledge of or be able to rapidly learn the market and financial drivers of solar and energy storage project development. The CA must be able to support several projects and project portfolios concurrently while sustaining rigorous attention to detail. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and a track record of success through a previous position at a solar energy developer or other relevant employer. Experience working with multiple functional groups at a solar energy developer (such as sales leads, design engineering, finance, etc.), in the C&I sector, is a plus.
Responsibilities
Assess new business opportunities and determine bidding strategy
Analyze projects to determine optimal design and cost configuration
Perform rate analysis to determine value of solar and/or solar plus storage; evaluate potential for energy storage where applicable
Research available incentives and other project inputs such as property taxes and REC values
Interface extensively with Senior Sales Executives, Development Engineering, and Structured Finance team, and serve as a conduit between them, to move projects through the development cycle
Collaborate with Structured Finance to build customer-facing savings models, financed project models, as well as build and own related tools. Familiarity with project financing is a plus.
Act as in-house modeling expert on details of utility policies (eg. Net Metering, PPA legality) and incentive programs (eg. MA SMART, NY VDERs, CA SGIP) essential for successful origination and project development. Act as in-house expert of utility supply and distribution rates for residential and commercial customers and understand how electricity costs are currently incurred by facilities. Understand the options available for rate switching to benefit our customers, and implications for project design
Develop new systems, project management tools, and processes for tracking, developing, and organizing project development. Pursue initiatives to improve efficiency & throughput.
Ability to travel and go on site visits, meet with customers and partners, attend conferences and present to DSD Executives
Required Quals
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Minimum 2 years of professional experience with a solar energy developer, retail energy supplier or utility
Strong financial and energy system modelling required, including advanced knowledge of MS Excel and PowerPoint
Desired Qualifications

High level of attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and short turnarounds
Effective communication skills with the ability to be at least ‘conversational competent’ with experts from other business functions within a solar development organization
Self-motivated and excited to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment
