Job Description:

Distributed Solar Development is seeking a highly motivated, creative, results oriented attorney to join its Company as commercial counsel.  This individual will be solely dedicated to supporting and advising the business development team.  This role will have a broad range of responsibilities to help support and facilitate a rapidly growing business.  

Job Responsibilities:

Provide counsel to the business development team under the direction of both the general counsel and head of development

Draft and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements (e.g. Confidentiality Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Leases, and Easements) and other agreements to support the development team’s activities

Identify and help resolve legal issues and areas of risk

Review title work, identify and help resolve title issues and oversee issuance of title insurance  

Ensure that all agreements comply with the Company policies

Develop and maintain templates to support the development team’s activities

Support the acquisition of solar projects 

Research and provide guidance on State and Federal laws and regulations that are relevant to the development teams’ activities, including all tax, energy and environmental, labor, construction and privacy laws as well as all State incentive programs

Work on special projects as assigned

Contribute positively to the Development team’s success

Education and Qualifications:

JD degree from a highly selective law school and in good standing with a U.S. State Bar

7+ years’ experience with a top law firm

Commercial contracting experience in the renewable energy field with an emphasis on the solar industry preferred

Real estate, construction and M & A experience also required; government contracting a plus

Prior experience directly representing solar developers in the C&I markets

Experience drafting a wide array of business templates

Strong business acumen and analytical skills to grasp and resolve complex legal issues

Proven track record of bringing transactions to favorable close; compliance oriented

Exceptional judgement and the proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast -paced dynamic environment

Excellent verbal and written skills

Excellent interpersonal skills, collaborative in approach
