Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is hiring a full-time Food Safety + Quality Assurance Coordinator based out of our Brooklyn production facility. This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual to work closely with the founding team of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream as the company embarks on its next stage of accelerated growth. The ideal candidate has experience in food manufacturing (dairy is a plus!), is well-versed in CPG quality assurance protocols, is a confident trainer, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment (and loves ice cream!).


The Food Safety + Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for routine inspections of activities at the manufacturing facility in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Verify compliance with programs, documentation is properly completed, and train employees to Standard Operating Procedures. They will execute all food safety and quality assurance initiatives including quality testing, certification audits, risk management, and employee training.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Participate in the creation, enforcement, and maintenance of Van Leeuwen’s food safety and quality assurance standards across both the manufacturing facility.
  • Review receipt of goods to verify that Certificates of Analysis are provided and meet specifications. 
  • Review and approve production batch records. Address any documentation issues in a time sensitive manner.
  • Investigate and resolve issues involving non-conforming material, out-of-specification events, and consumer complaints
  • Conduct regular food safety audits at our manufacturing facility and use appropriate tools to report results
  • Train all new manufacturing employees on good manufacturing practices, and retrain existing employees on new safety protocols
  • Partner with manufacturing leadership to write and implement SOPs to maintain a safe work environment and safe product
  • Submit product tests to appropriate laboratories and make corrective action recommendations as needed


REQUIREMENTS


  • 1-3 years of experience as a food safety + quality assurance leader in a food production capacity, experience in dairy production a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in food safety, with in-depth knowledge of quality assurance, HACCP, and food safety management standards, including auditing for compliance in CPGs
  • Proven leader of people
  • Demonstrated strengths in written and verbal communication, project management, and training
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related technical field; higher degrees desirable
  • Additional desirable qualifications: certifications in HACCP, PCQI, and GFSI auditing schemes (SQF, FSSC 22000, BRC, AIB, etc); credentials in microbiology and/or statistical analysis
