Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is hiring a full-time Facility Maintenance Technician to support all of our New York Scoop Shops. This is a great opportunity for a highly experienced individual to work closely with the founding team of Van Leeuwen Ice Cream.

The Facility Maintenance Technician partners with our construction and retail teams to maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of our locations and ensures the upkeep of all restaurant equipment. This individual is responsible for ensuring that each location has equipment that is kept in good condition and maintains compliance with safety regulations by performing preventive maintenance & repairs, scheduling contractors when necessary.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs a variety of standard tasks associated to landscaping, facility repairs, and equipment repairs 

  • Effectively contributes to the successful overall delivery of quality 

  • Routinely maintains landscapes and performs tasks associated to facilities that include basic plumbing, woodworking, painting, tile work, power-washing, and maintenance of equipment

  • Clean HVAC units and kitchen equipment condensers, as required.

  • Perform/troubleshoot minor repairs for kitchen equipment, to include freezers, refrigerators, ice machines, coffee machines, waffle irons, etc.

  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly checklists to assess functionality and condition of all HVAC and kitchen equipment.

  • Provide routine cleaning and maintenance of location grease traps.

  • Ensure floor drains are properly cleaned and maintained.

  • Accurately record preventive maintenance tasks according to required maintenance schedule.

  • Respond and close out work orders for each facility.

  • Develop processes and procedures, alongside the Director of Store Development & Facilities,  to minimize operational disruptions, equipment down time, and ensure overall facility cleanliness.

  • Comply with all Food Safety policies and procedures, ensuring all service and maintenance contractors are also in compliance.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1-3 years of maintenance mechanic experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Prior electrical, plumbing and carpentry work experience

  • A high attention to detail and strong organizational skills

  • Knowledge of HVAC systems

  • Demonstrated communication and time management skills

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making abilities

  • Extensive experience performing preventive maintenance for general facility and kitchen equipment

  • Experience handling basic and complex hand / power tools and measuring devices

  • Basic computer skills

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics and basic machine set-up & operation

  • Experience troubleshooting  equipment 

  • Willingness and ability to conduct personal research and seek out training opportunities to better understand our equipment

  • Ability to walk or stand for up to 8 hours per day with breaks

  • Comfort with frequently bending at the waist, squatting, and twisting with torso

  • Ability to perform after hour projects / tasks and supervise projects as required

  • Ability to occasionally to lift and carry up to 60 pounds
