Join our dynamic team as a Recruitment and Outreach Associate (ROA), where you'll conduct Corps Member recruitment and community outreach initiatives vital to the Green City Force ecosystem. As the frontline ambassador, you'll foster partnerships and engagement with residents, community partners, and alumni to amplify interest in our Service Corps program, driving our mission forward and boosting program involvement. 

 

Under the direct mentorship and supervision of our Recruitment and Engagement Manager, you'll collaborate with the Program team members to enhance recruitment strategies and streamline messaging for maximum impact.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, with flexibility for schedule changes based on need

Primary Responsibilities/Activities: 

Outreach

  • Support and work with the Recruitment and Engagement Manager to liaise between Green City Force and key community stakeholders which include and are not limited to the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety (formally MOCJ), NYCHA REES, NYCHA residents and staff, Tenant Associations, and local community-based organizations.

  • Amplify  GCF presence and impact at key community events and activities by assisting with  event preparation, actively participating in recurring community engagement meetings (NSTAT  and Tenant Association meetings) across the five boroughs, and  building community engagement/connections by conducting outreach strategies (events, tabling, flyering, etc.) 

  • Assist with documentation collection (waivers, sign-in sheets, etc) and organizing data related to outreach activities like community events, tabling, and canvassing initiatives.

  • Support any reporting requirements associated with any outreach event which may include the written summary, event pictures, flyers, etc. 

  • Assist in cultivating and maintaining community partnerships. This includes ongoing community asset mapping, consistent partnership engagement via emails and in-person meetings, collaborative follow-up communication with the Recruitment and Engagement Manager

  • In collaboration with the Recruitment and Engagement Manager and Development team, support the development, refinement, and dissemination of outreach tools and strategies including social media posts, newsletters, commissioned ads, and text/email campaigns.

Program Onboarding

  • Engage, motivate, and empower young adults to embrace a mission-driven opportunity, igniting their passion to make meaningful impacts in their communities. This includes but may not be limited to: 

    • Sending communication on Information Sessions to potential participants and partners - formal emails and calls. 

    • Leading Information Sessions and working alongside the Recruitment and Engagement Manager to ensure information is relevant to current program sectoral goals, highlighting program success, and conveying program benefits to candidates.

    • Capturing information session attendance and assisting in reporting to partners as needed.

    • Conducting Tryouts (in-person and virtual) and providing objective feedback about candidates

    • Maintaining consistent communication with candidates through every step of the recruitment process

    • Supporting the maintenance of recruitment materials, working closely with the Recruitment and Engagement Manager and Development team to update needed information to accurately reflect the program opportunities and continue to increase interest.

  • At the direction of the Recruitment and Engagement Manager, assist in applicant follow-up, which may include

    • Virtual meeting - create a Zoom meeting and end applicant interview details

    • In-person meeting - send applicant interview details, location, etc.

  • Support additional documentation collection and preparation to support candidates advancing in the selection process and successful program enrollment.

As an important member of the Service team, the ROA will participate in conversations related to the continuous improvement of:

  • Recruitment progress toward goals

  • Candidate pool status and candidate selection

  • Cultivating and maintaining partnership 

  • Continuing to increase community interest, understanding, and support of GCF, to increase applicants and community impact

Administrative 

  • Attends and actively participates in scheduled work meetings, professional development and training sessions, and organization-wide events which include, but are not limited to, Recruitment team meetings, all staff meetings, staff retreats, etc.

  • Ensures compliance with administrative deadlines related to data collection, enrollment requirements, event invitations, communication follow-up, etc.

  • Works collaboratively with the Recruitment and Engagement Manager on  delegated and assigned tasks

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • An alumnus of Green City Force strongly encouraged

  • Commitment to youth development, social and economic justice, and sustainable development; passion for Green City Force’s mission 

  • Driver’s License strongly preferred

  • Outreach experience strongly preferred, needs comfortability with in-person communication, ability to build community connections 

  • At least one year of experience in sustainable agriculture, youth development, national service, sustainability sector, community organizing in low-income communities, construction, or military

  • Previously demonstrated an effective leadership role with young adults ages 18 – 24 from public housing or other low-income communities. 

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, work ethic, accountability, and responsibility. 

  • Highly organized self-starter; ability to take direction, structure tasks, establish priorities, and set goals. 

  • Ability to solve problems, mediate conflicts and exercise sound judgment 

  • Familiarity and comfort using computer programs such as Google, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 

  • Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal and motivational skills, and excellent collaborative and teamwork skills.

  • Enthusiasm for, and personal commitment to, healthy sustainable living choices. 

  • Direct experience living and/or working in public housing communities. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in-person, by telephone, and through written correspondence.
