OVERVIEW

 

Green City Force (GCF) is seeking a passionate and mission-driven Director of Sectoral Business Development to drive employer and business partnerships as a green job placement strategy for Green City Force’s alumni. 

 

Reporting to the Chief Program Officer,  The Director of Sectoral Business Development will deliver high-quality career development solutions across our dynamic sector, with direct responsibility for growing an employer base to sustain opportunities for GCF graduates,  while ensuring a high-quality experience throughout all aspects of the candidate and employer relationship.

 

The Director of Sectoral Business Development is an experienced clean energy, urban agriculture, and other green sectors professional. They are well experienced in workforce development and will utilize business, sales, and customer relationship management skills to grow Green City Force’s business partner portfolio. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

New Employer Cultivation

  • Establish meaningful relationships with 25 good, green, aligned employers who will hire a minimum of 5 graduates annually, with representation across each of Green City Force’s  6 green career tracks; including sectorally aligned unions: Green Construction, Energy Efficiency, Urban Agriculture,  Green Infrastructure, Zero Waste, and Community Health. 

  • Build on existing employer relationships to develop a sectorally diverse portfolio of placement opportunities for 200+ alumni annually, with success measured by criteria such as job quality, placement potential, wage level, retention, and career advancement 

  • Develop and manages strategic partnerships, including sector-aligned labor unions,  to grow the business-employer partners and business opportunities

  • Remain current on local hiring and labor trends, including job fair participation, staff development opportunities, and training; continuously researching, cultivating, and prioritizing a list of potential employers that meet industry needs

Social Enterprise 

  • Secure an average of 3 contracts per year and ensure that active contracts support GCF goals of 40 Social Enterprise placements per year

  • Build relationships with suppliers, distributors, partners, and vendors within GCFs existing sectoral focus areas (Green Construction, Energy Efficiency, Urban Agriculture,  Green Infrastructure, Zero Waste, and Community Health). Identify and structure opportunities for the Social Enterprise to expand into new sustainability sectors.

  • With a focus on keeping GCF competitive and at the forefront of the green economy, present business or marketing opportunities to senior leadership that may lead to the increase of contract and employment opportunities

Business and Partner Management

  • Manage key employer partnerships in priority sectors, including energy efficiency and renewable energy fields.  This includes working closely with employers to improve and deepen the partnership by exploring opportunities for cross-collaboration

  • Make appropriate and timely job placement referrals of participants to potential employers based on participants’ skills, work experience, and interests, leveraging the Career Services team to identify alumni talent while leveraging expertise to ensure optimal placement and talent matching

  • Conduct reviews of existing GCF accounts regularly to evaluate employer demand and usage of GCF services and determine how best to improve and/or leverage relationships to meet placement objectives

  • Support employer and business partners with the retention of GCF graduates, developing GCF’s communication loop when addressing business challenges and opportunities to keep alumni employed while supporting positive work environments with good jobs and clear career growth opportunities. Support a similar strategy with our Social Enterprise, working across teams to support long-term work for GCF Alumni Temporary Employees beyond their contract 

  • Ensure strong employer engagement. Engagement may include but is not limited to providing content for newsletters; and providing strategic feedback and support on employer events, speaking engagements, volunteer opportunities, and employer site visits. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum of 5  years relevant work experience required; 2 years of senior-level experience, with a  background in employer relationship cultivation, contract negotiations, job creation, LMI forecasting and mapping, clean energy and green construction workforce,  work readiness coaching, candidate branding, and/or competitive behavioral interviewing

  • Experience and certifications in energy efficiency, green building, and maintenance, or other GCF-aligned sustainability-related sectors preferred

  • Established network/relationships with employers across NYC, with a strong preference for employers active in the healthy buildings and communities sector

  • Demonstrated growth outcomes in job placements and employer partnerships

  • Knowledge of New York City labor market trends and employer-based tax incentives

  • Data-driven professional with a proven track record of setting and exceeding targets

  • Superior communications skills, ability to engage a wide range of constituents, and ability to articulate GCF’s mission and vision to prospective partners

  • Passionate about the communities and young people we serve

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operate in a fast-paced and constantly evolving environment that drives continuous improvement. 

  • Well-versed in Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to embrace technology.

  • Commitment to cultural diversity and equity.

Desired

  • Personal experience with issues related to Green City Force’s mission: social, environmental, and economic justice, service years, sustainability, youth development, public housing, and/or low-income communities

  • Core Competencies: Sales Ability, Analytical Thinking, Persistence
