Position Summary:

Green City Force (GCF) is an AmeriCorps program that has been recognized nationally for its innovative workforce development and service model that positively impacts Opportunity Youth living in public housing, while supporting sustainability initiatives across the City. 


SSSW’s primary role is to provide psychosocial support to our Corps Members (AmeriCorps Members completing a 6-month service term at GCF)  and GCF alumni. The SSSW will provide a range of services, including individual counseling, group workshops, and psychoeducational seminars, to assist our members and alumni in developing skills to manage any psychosocial stressors that may arise as they work toward their goal of employment, education, and other personal achievements. 

Case Management 

  • Manage a caseload of up to 30 members, with support of Social Work Interns  

  • Conduct individual counseling sessions with Corps Members, to provide psychosocial support and foster emotional wellness. The SSSW will on average conduct 10-15 individual counseling sessions per week.  

  • Complete psychosocial assessments of prospective candidates during the recruitment period

  • Implement and facilitate psycho-educational and supportive groups for Corps Members. 

  • Perform crisis intervention (i.e. homelessness or domestic violence, suicidality, or child protective concerns), and connect Corps Members and Alumni with additional support  

  • Refer Corps Members to external resources (e.g. clinical counseling, public benefits counseling,  child care resources, etc.), and implement a follow-up process as needed. Build partnerships and represent GCF to potential partners related to supportive services for corps and alumni.  

  • Maintain progress notes on all contacts with Corps Members  

  • Provide support in the implementation of the Corps Member disciplinary support in partnership with the Program Manager 

  • Utilize Multi-Disciplinary Team approach to case consultation in order to support Service Coordinators, team leaders in the implementation of best practices for youth development

Supervision and Consultation

  • Participate in monthly clinical supervision (4 hours/ month) toward the fulfillment of New York State LCSW requirements

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with allied service providers that can provide additional support for Corps Members and Alumni

  • Provide consultation and onsite coaching to Service Coordinators on the field

  • Provide weekly clinical supervision to 2 interns


Qualifications

Minimum requirements:  

  • Master’s degree in Social Work with active licensure (LMSW) in New York State

  • NYC SIFI Certification, or on track to receive SIFI within 1 year of employment

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing case management

  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience with young adults  facing multiple psychosocial issues

  • Experience building partnerships with diverse networks of resource providers

  • Passion for creating pathways out of poverty for urban young adults ages 18 – 24

  • Models collaborative behavior within our team-based approach to supporting our members

  • Committed to holding all GCF Alumni and Corps Members to high expectations for personal success
