An Information Technology Manager II who thrives on planning and allocating resources to meet goals that reflect policy directives.

Your job may engage your skills and knowledge with:

  • Thorough knowledge of operations, programming techniques, and capabilities of computer platforms, software, networks, telecommunications, and peripheral equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of systems analysis, system design, and database architecture.
  • Considerable knowledge of new concepts and designs in computer technology.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and planning procedures as they relate to IT activities.
  • Considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
  • Ability to evaluate program situations in terms of IT applications and cost effectiveness.
  • Ability to translate user requirements into successful IT applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously and under pressure.

Examples of work you may perform include:

  • Manage planning and oversight on multiple programs.
  • Analyze performance of databases and/or system development/support to ensure optimized functional design/technical architecture.
  • Establish and maintain systems/infrastructure to support systems/application development across divisions and departments.
  • Develop strategies and tactics to enhance IT efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Provide technical solutions based on organizational direction, operations, processes, and principles.
  • Develop and administer IT budget for multiple projects and/or functional IT units.
  • Direct professional development and training of assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop system strategies and standards.
  • Develop requests for proposals, enters into contracts with vendors, and monitors vendor performance.
  • Organize meetings with business champions, management, or IT management to define procedures, plan strategic direction, or explore technology direction.
  • Fulfill backup role for IT Manager III or CIO if organization has one.

Specific Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Eight (8) years or more experience in computer sciences, business administration, public administration, mathematics, technical operations management, or providing supervision to staff within an IT environment.
    OR
  • Four (4) years or more in an IT Manager role with a combination of experience in computer operations, IT management/administration, or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
