Your job may engage your skills and knowledge with:
- Thorough knowledge of operations, programming techniques, and capabilities of computer platforms, software, networks, telecommunications, and peripheral equipment.
- Broad knowledge of IT processing systems, concepts, and methodologies.
- Aptitude for learning new technologies.
- Thorough knowledge of systems analysis, system design, database, and client service architecture.
- Knowledge of budgeting and planning procedures as they relate to IT activities.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Ability to evaluate program situations in terms of IT applications and cost effectiveness.
- Ability to translate user requirements into successful IT applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Examples of work you may perform:
- Manage planning and oversight of multiple projects.
- Develop plans for maintenance of major systems, database management software, applications, networks, and telecommunications.
- Develop qualitative and quantitative outcomes of assigned projects.
- Develop measures for determining compliance with the strategic plan.
- Develop work specifications based on plans and objectives.
- Identifiy and support desired program outcomes.
- Develop IT solutions to organizational problems.
- Maintain infrastructures supporting hardware and software planning and evaluation.
- Develop requests for proposals, enters into contracts with vendors, and monitors vendor performance.
- Obtain funding and approval for activities.
- Set rates for system usage and terms for chargeback.
- Review performance of personnel and equipment.
- Supervise assigned staff, including hiring, performance evaluation, and corrective action.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop system strategies and standards.
- Perform related duties as required.
Specific Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Six (6) years or more experience in computer science, business administration, public administration, mathematics, technical operations management, or providing support to staff within an IT environment.
OR - Four (4) years or more in an IT Manager role with a combination of experience in computer operations, IT management/administration, or supervisory responsibilities
