POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineering Intern – Product Management and Development will support the sales, marketing & development teams in executing deliverables required in the product development process - including driving sales growth, supporting customer conversion and ensuring sales reps are fully educated on all product lines. Primary responsibilities focus on the management and development of orthopedic tools and devices, specifically in supporting the MyInstrument platform. The 12-week Summer program will focus on three major objectives: (1) education, (2) product management, and (3) project development. The position is located at the Medacta USA headquarters in Franklin, TN.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational Requirements:
Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business/Marketing, Engineering, or Biologic Science Related Discipline. At least 50% degree completion is required (if undergraduate). A minimum GPA of 3.0 Cumulative is strongly preferred.
Experience Requirements:
Any existing short-term professional and/or educational experience is required.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (i.e. Solidworks).
- 3D printing and prototyping experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Management, leadership, and organizational ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Ability to convey complex information in understandable terms to individuals at all educational levels.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Sitting: Extended periods at a desk or workstation.
- Standing and Walking: Occasional movement within the office, labs, and/or operating room.
- Lifting and Carrying: Light to moderate lifting of office/engineering materials.
Additional tasks may require reaching, manual dexterity, and visual acuity.

Internal: Direct Reports, Sales Personnel, Marketing, Product Development, Finance, Administration, Customer Service, Operations, Medical Education, Clinical Research, Human Resources, and Medacta International Personnel worldwide.
Travel requirements: Up to 10%.
Extent of Confidential Information: Ability to maintain tact, poise, and discretion in handling confidential matters.
Reporting: Daily reports to direct supervisor and members of the product management and development team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Product Management
- Develop marketing strategies and product launches with clear execution plans that are consistent with Medacta's global strategy.
- Research, analyze, and remain informed about competitive products.
- Create, prepare, and deliver arthroscopy product training.
- Prepare competitive reviews and produce sales aids to assist sales force.
- Manage multiple projects and initiatives while maintaining a strong sense of urgency.
- Assist in support for all labs and educational programs.
- Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently within a matrix environment where tight timelines exist.
- Product Development
- Understand and implement the engineering design process to a specific MyInstrument project.
- Create 3D models and design, technical drawings, and prototypes using CAD software (Solidworks).
- Develop a working knowledge of joint (hip, knee, and shoulder) and/or spine anatomy.
- Understand the surgical technique and functionality of instrumentation associated with Medacta product line(s).
- Provide technical support to customer service, sales force, and surgeons.
