Overview:


Interested in applying your food science knowledge to decrease waste in the global supply chain? Parsyl is an insurance technology company that delivers data-driven insurance and risk management to essential supply chains including vaccines and perishable foods. We are seeking current students or recent college graduates with a background in food science and an interest in IoT technology, data, and risk management for a paid summer internship. 


Interns are full-fledged members of the team — engaged from day one through structured training, mentorship, a diverse set of experiences, and a network of peers across the company. This role is designed to provide exposure to real, complex operational projects in which you will be working with a variety of people in different business functions.

As a Parsyl Food Science Intern, you will work cross-functionally with the data, product, customer success, insurance, and sales teams. Your work will directly impact and elevate Parsyl’s customer experience and risk management services, ultimately helping reduce food wastage globally.

What you’ll get to work on:

 

You will enhance Parsyl’s understanding of the effects of temperature and other environmental factors on the quality and spoilage of foods, and create systematic documentation for use by the business. You will do this by:

  • Creating a simplified taxonomy of food stuffs, incorporating both science and Parsyl’s business use case

  • Identify:

    • which among these foods have temperature as a primary quality driver

    • industry/scientific defined ideal temperatures and temperature bands

    • formulas for shelf life lost when available

    • other standards for quality degradation 

  • Overlay industry shipping/storing quality best practices and risk factors

  • Organize the above in an easily consumable way across Parsyl business units

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Agriculture, Animal Science, a similar degree, or equivalent experience

  • College-level mathematics skills

  • Basic understanding of modern computing, including data entry and manipulation

  • This is a paid summer internship that requires an average availability of 40 hours per week during the Summer of 2022

Compensation & Benefits:


  • This internship will pay an hourly wage of $25/hr    

  • Summer relocation stipend available

This paid internship requires an average availability of 40 hours per week during the summer of 2022 in Parsyl’s main office located in Denver, CO. Interns are expected to work in the office for the majority of the internship. Safety protocols for the COVID-19 pandemic, defined by the CDC, state of Colorado, and Denver county, are being adhered to in the office in order to protect Parsyl employees.
