ABOUT SCCF

The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) was founded in 1967, and its mission is to protect and care for Southwest Florida's coastal ecosystems.

SANIBEL SEA SCHOOL

SCCF merged with Sanibel Sea School in 2020 to expand its educational offerings and to embrace Sanibel Sea School’s mission of improving the ocean’s future, one person at a time. Sanibel Sea School offers marine science-focused weekly camps, daily and after-school programs, outreach activities, and educational programs for children and adults. These programs give children and families the opportunity to experience and interact with coastal ecosystems and inspire them to be lifelong stewards of the environment. Sanibel Sea School never turns someone away for inability to pay.

COASTAL WATCH

SCCF's Coastal Watch program implements volunteer-based initiatives to restore habitats, remove debris and litter from the environment, and encourage resilience and sustainability. Its Adopt-A-Mangrove and Oyster Recycling programs have helped plant over 20,000 mangroves and recycle nearly 15,000 oyster shells.

SCCF is also the largest private landowner on Sanibel Island and protects over 2,100 acres of land on the island and in Southwest Florida. Its programs include sea turtle and shorebird monitoring, wildlife and habitat management, a Marine Laboratory, a Native Landscapes & Garden Center, environmental policy and advocacy, and environmental education.
