The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect and care for southwest Florida ecosystems. The Landscape Technician will report to the Facilities and Events Director.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform landscape maintenance around SCCF’s six facilities and six publicly accessible preserves, including weeding, mowing, edging, weed-whacking, trimming, and general upkeep of the landscape and natural areas
- Spread landscape materials (i.e., mulch, shell, gravel) as needed
- Assist Native Landscapes & Garden Center staff with new plantings around SCCF facilities and trails
- Perform tasks in environmentally friendly manner
- Perform tasks as appropriate to Florida native plants
- Recognize Florida native plant species and their seedlings, and leave/remove as appropriate
- Ability to trim shrubs and small trees in accordance with best horticultural practices
- Interact with the public as needed, representing SCCF in a professional and courteous manner
Qualifications
- Ability to use various landscaping power tools, including string trimmer, mower, blower, etc.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work outdoors in subtropical conditions for long periods of time, including hot temperatures, humidity, insects, and in areas with high concentrations of poison ivy
- Ability to communicate well in English
- Possession of or willingness to obtain Florida Pesticide licensing
- Ability to tow and maneuver a trailer
- Valid driver’s license
- 18 years of age or older
