Approximately one-third of Bronx residents are currently living below the poverty line and this year alone, Part of the Solution (POTS) will help close to 40,000 people, including 12,000 children, with a multitude of needs. POTS’ services address the varying issues and complexities that accompany poverty by helping clients find stability across areas such as financial wellbeing, health, education, housing and day-to-day needs.
By providing comprehensive and personalized support to our clients, we can tailor support to their unique circumstances and help them navigate a pathway forward. POTS offers an array of comprehensive and personalized services to fight poverty and hunger in The Bronx, at no cost to clients.
About the position
Part of the Solution´s Communications Department is responsible for delivering targeted, aligned messaging across internal and external stakeholder groups.
The Communications Assistant is a full-time position that will support the Communications Director with the development and implementation of POTS’ communications programs including internal and external communications on nonprofit activities and goals, including brand management, marketing and fundraising communications, and community relations. Areas of focus include:
- Maintaining Informational Material - Assists in the writing, designing, editing, proofreading and producing a variety of promotional materials, i.e., newsletter articles, news releases, letters, reports, website content, brochures, advertisements, presentations and other collateral materials targeted to a variety of audiences.
- Content creation and Media Management – Work with staff and other stakeholders to create content for communications campaigns. This will include posting and managing social media, as well as drafting press releases.
- Website Maintenance - Work with the Website managers (third party vendor) maintaining and updating the look and feel of the website, and keeping the content fresh and up-to-date.
- Special Event Support - Provides event-planning support for community relations and media activities such as community advisory group meetings, online webinars, seasonal events, and volunteer appreciation days, among others. Some activities may require evening and/or weekend commitments.
- Database management - Maintain/update communication´s databases and repository of stories and visuals for use in communications materials.
- Organizational Outreach and Support - Assists with special events and programs as necessary, i.e., facility tours, outreach events, Board meetings, one-time promotional events, etc. Assists with Marketing Communications in order to maintain strong, favorable image for the organization with a diversity of Stakeholders.

Qualifications
- Degree in public relations, journalism, marketing, communications or related field a plus. Equivalent experience (including internships) may be considered.
- 1-2 year experience working in communications/marketing/public relations with strong skills in content creation, graphic design, writing, photography, and editing for newsletters, magazines, brochures, collateral materials, presentations, social media, websites, and intranet sites.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and solid writing and copy editing skills (writing samples required).
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Experience with content creation and media management (required).
- Fluent in Spanish (preferred).
- Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other design software (art portfolio recommended).
- Experience with website design/maintenance (WordPress) and photo editing software is preferred.
- Community engagement experience, event planning, and photography skills preferred.
- Must be able to exercise independent judgment and work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to relate well to diverse groups of people, build healthy relationships with the community, and communicate with maturity and compassion.
- Must be committed to improving and learning, to seeking constructive criticism, and to understanding your own strengths and weaknesses.
