About POTS

The mission of POTS is to be a loving community in the Bronx that nourishes the basic needs and hungers of all who come to its door. Helping low-income families and individuals since 1982, Part of the Solution (POTS) has grown to become a leading provider of emergency food, legal representation and social services in the Bronx. POTS’ unique “one-stop shop” model of interrelated programming has been designed to carry out its vision of helping low-income individuals and families move from crisis to stability and ultimately self-sufficiency. Last year, POTS’ work has touched the lives of more than 35,000 people, including over 9,000 children.   POTS’ Food Pantry, operating since 1999, has provided hundreds of thousands of low-income Bronx residents millions of nutritionally-complete meals.

 

About the position

Reporting to the Associate Director of Food & Dignity Services, the Food Security Associate is a crucial component to ensure proper function of the Food Pantry & Community Kitchen. This includes creating an environment in which clients feel dignity and respect, maintaining the cleanliness and inventory in the Pantry & Community Kitchen, assisting in the supervision of volunteers in the Pantry program & Community Kitchen. Briefly interviewing all clients briefly for any changes in their living conditions before providing service and connecting clients to other POTS services. The Food Security Associate must perform all his/her duties with the goal of insuring POTS’s Core Values (Community, Respect, Hospitality, Empowerment, and Justice) are upheld in the delivery of services.

Responsibilities:

  • Commitment to POTS: Belief in the programs and mission of the organization. Motivated to achieve a desired goal and ability to plan, manage time effectively and work towards it proactively, going the extra mile if necessary. Will be comfortable being accountable for ambitious goals and understands the role of measurable data in achieving results.
  • Pantry and kitchen operations: Ensure clients seeking emergency food receive the service in a dignified and efficient manner. Maintain the cleanliness of the pantry and kitchen, keep them both stocked and manage Inventory.
  • Client data management: Record and document interactions with clients. Ensure all data is entered into Salesforce correctly and efficiently and that household data is kept up to date. Follow-up with referral agencies to confirm that clients received the services they need. Keep client data safe and secure.
  • Volunteer supervision: Provide constant supervision to volunteers to ensure the work flow is operating correctly. 

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills demonstrated through 1-3 years of experience
  • Ability to manage a crowd
  • Conversational to fluent in Spanish
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • General facility with computers
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Commitment to the mission and vision of POTS

 

Preferred Skills

  • Comfort with MS Office, especially Excel and Word
  • Client interview or case management experience
  • Experience in cooking/nutrition education
