Community.co is seeking a freelance editor to join our fast-paced team. In this role, you’ll report to our Managing Editor. You will be editing content from our incredible members (some of the world’s smartest professionals, startup founders, C-level executives and business owners), helping them publish thought leadership articles for websites such as Forbes.com. Content encompasses a wide array of subject matter including technology, real estate, finance, marketing, leadership and entrepreneurship.

 

We are looking for someone with an editor’s discernment and an expert-level knowledge of AP style guidelines to edit articles each ranging in length from ~500-1100 words. In addition to conducting a thorough edit on the assigned pieces, you may need to update the article’s title or deck as needed to make them more captivating/clickable.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS

  • Select assignments for the week based on availability

  • Edit and submit article assignments by the end of the workweek

  • Recommend feature images, pull quotes and excerpts for all assignments

  • Adhere to Community.co’s in-house style guide as well as style guideline specifics from our media partners

  • Craft feedback notes for members

  • Communicate article notes to Managing Editor

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expert knowledge of AP Style (all copy must follow AP Stylebook guidelines)
  • Impeccable grammar, spelling and communication skills
  • Ability to edit content effectively while retaining the writer’s style and voice
  • Fact-check research and claims while spot-checking for potential errors in the copy
  • Ability to communicate any editing, style or general article feedback to the Managing Editor
  • Great time-management skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to ask questions and be receptive to feedback
  • Willingness to be trained on new content management systems if needed

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • This is a remote, project-based freelance position; there is no expectation for regular work.
  • The pay rate is $53.75 per article.
