NOW HIRING A FREELANCE COPYEDITOR

 

The Community Company is seeking a freelance copy editor to join our fast-paced team. (NOTE: Depending on performance and availability, the position could evolve into a full-time role.)

 

In this role, you’ll report to our Director of Content and collaborate with a dynamic team of senior and associate editors. You will be working with our incredible members (some of the world’s smartest professionals, startup founders, C-level executives and business owners) to help them publish thought leadership articles for websites such as Forbes and Inc. Content encompasses a wide array of subject matter including technology, real estate, finance, marketing, leadership and entrepreneurship.

 

We are looking for someone with an editor’s discernment and an expert-level knowledge of AP style guidelines to copy edit and proofread several dozen pieces of content per week, each ranging in length from ~500-1100 words. In addition to conducting a thorough proofread on the assigned pieces, you may need to update the article’s title or deck as needed to make them more captivating/clickable.

The Community Company is a provider of community-driven programs for media companies and global brands. Our communities include YEC, a council for the world’s most successful entrepreneurs, and branded councils in partnership with Forbes, Ad Age, and American City Business Journals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS

 

·       Proofread several dozen articles per week (as many as 50-100) on tight deadlines.

o    Each piece of content will have already gone through an initial round of edits, so heavy edits are not necessary at this stage

·       Adhere to The Community Company’s in-house style guide as well as style guideline specifics from our media partners

·       Regularly check in with Director of Content via email/Slack to discuss project needs for the week

·       Communicate any feedback/article notes to associate editors and senior editors via Slack

 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Expert knowledge of AP Style (all copy must follow AP Stylebook guidelines)
  • Impeccable grammar, spelling and communication skills 
  • Ability to proofread content quickly and efficiently, while spot-checking for potential errors in the copy
  • Ability to communicate any editing, style or general article feedback to in-house editorial team 
  • Willingness to be trained on new content management systems as needed 
  • Great time-management skills and attention to detail 
  • Willingness to ask questions and be receptive to feedback
  • Interest and availability to work on project on an ongoing basis (there’s no shortage of content to edit!)
  • Experience with WordPress and business/thought leadership content

 

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • This is a remote, project-based freelance position
  • Ongoing freelance project could entail as many as 50-100 articles per week
  • The pay rate is $108 per 16 articles edited (as stated above, content will have already gone through a round of editing, so we’re only looking for a thorough proofread at this stage)
