Community.co is seeking a freelance proofreader to join our fast-paced team. (NOTE: Depending on performance and availability, the position could evolve into a full-time role.)
In this role, you’ll report to our Managing Editor and collaborate with a dynamic team of senior and associate editors. You will be working with our incredible members (some of the world’s smartest professionals, startup founders, C-level executives and business owners) to help them publish thought leadership articles for websites such as Forbes. Content encompasses a wide array of subject matter, including technology, real estate, finance, marketing, leadership and entrepreneurship.
We are looking for someone with an editor’s discernment and expert-level knowledge of AP style guidelines to proofread several dozen pieces of content per week, each ranging in length from ~500-1,000 words. In addition to conducting a thorough proofread on the assigned pieces, you may need to update the article’s title or deck as needed to make them more captivating/clickable.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND GOALS

Proofread several dozen articles per week (as many as 50-100) on tight deadlines.

Each piece of content will have already gone through an initial round of edits, so heavy edits are not necessary at this stage

Adhere to Community.co’s in-house style guide as well as style guideline specifics from our media partners and AP

Regularly check in with the Managing Editor via email/Slack to discuss project needs for the week

Communicate any feedback/article notes to associate editors and senior editors via Slack
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Expert knowledge of AP Style (all copy must follow AP Stylebook guidelines)

Impeccable grammar, spelling and communication skills

Ability to proofread content quickly and efficiently, while spot-checking for potential errors in the copy

Ability to communicate any editing, style or general article feedback to in-house editorial team

Willingness to be trained on new content management systems as needed

Great time-management skills and attention to detail

Willingness to ask questions and be receptive to feedback

Interest and availability to work on projects on an ongoing basis (there’s no shortage of content to edit!)

Experience business/thought leadership content

The pay rate is $10.75 per article edited (as stated above, content will have already gone through a round of editing, so we’re only looking for a thorough proofread at this stage)
