POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Engagement Specialist at Islamic Relief USA is a pivotal role within the Marketing department, contributing to research, development, implementation, and postmortem analysis of multitier, multichannel engagement campaigns, with a primary focus on fundraisers, challenges, inspire trips and social media. This individual will work under the guidance of the Engagement Manager, ensuring that engagement team initiatives align with IRUSA's brand, voice, and policies while adhering to industry best practices. The Engagement Specialist leverages their skills to creatively amplify IRUSA's brand, foster engagement, inspire donations, and achieve organizational objectives, working towards the success of the overall engagement efforts. The ideal candidate will demonstrate unwavering commitment to IRUSA's values, ethics, brand, vision, and mission.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteer Recruitment & Management:

  • Recruit, interview, and onboard volunteers for international and domestic activities.
  • Create and manage volunteer programs to support events and activations.
  • Train and prepare volunteers for assigned roles and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate volunteer scheduling, travel, and logistics.
  • Provide support and direction for volunteers in the field.
  • Track volunteer data and maintain accurate records.
  • Develop volunteer appreciation initiatives to recognize contributions.


Social Media Management:

  • Develop and execute social media strategy across platforms to engage supporters and advance IRUSA's mission.
  • Create engaging, relevant, optimized content tailored for each platform.
  • Monitor conversations and interact with followers to build community.
  • Manage online fundraising campaigns.
  • Cultivate relationships with social media influencers to create partnership opportunities.
  • Stay on top of social media trends, technologies, and best practices to refine strategy.
  • Analyze platform analytics and insights to optimize content and campaigns.
  • Uphold and convey IRUSA's brand voice and values consistently across social channels.


Support:

  • Assist with content development for campaigns and assets.
  • Provide project management support across departmental initiatives.
  • Conduct research to identify trending topics, technologies, and tactics.
  • Manage administrative tasks including paperwork, data entry, invoicing, etc.
  • Foster relationships with influencers, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Model IRUSA's brand voice, values, and mission in external communications.
  • Work cross functionally to support engagement efforts organization wide.


QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Education: High School Degree or Associate or Bachelor Degree in Advertising, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience in a related role, with a focus on youth engagement initiatives.
  • Advertising and Marketing: Examples of proven success in buzz, guerilla, and street advertising and marketing.
  • Marketing Expertise: Proficiency in marketing and advertising principles and tactics, especially for fundraising and street marketing channels. Understanding of marketing principles and consumer psychology strategies.
  • Social Media: Expertise in utilizing social media to expand audiences, increase engagement, and amplify brand, using insights for strategic decision making.
  • Networking Tools: Proficiency in leveraging networking tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, or others.
  • Communication and Influencer Relations: Strong negotiation and communication skills, including public speaking. Influencer connections and clout within and beyond the target demographic. Strong conversationalist and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Design and Psychology: Understanding of marketing design principles and related consumer psychology strategies.
  • Attention to Detail: Acute attention to detail.
  • Digital Marketing: Keen awareness of and ability to positively affect SEO, SEM.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in both MAC and Windows environments.
  • Design Eye: Adaptive design eye, and acute attention to detail.

  • Communication and Problem Solving: Effective communication and problem solving skills and ability to manage day-to-day work challenges.
  • Autonomy: Exhibits sound decision making, prioritizes work appropriately, and requires minimal supervision.
  • Project Management: Outstanding project, process, time management, and organization skills.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work well with diverse work styles and personalities in a team based approach.

  • Language: Fluency in English.
  • Flexibility: Flexibility in work schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends as necessary) and willing to travel.
  • Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in the United States. 


PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • At least one year working in a non-profit environment.
  • Driving Skills: Proven precision driving skills, with a clean driving record and verified clean background check.
  • Driver's License: Current Commercial Driver’s License for commercial bus, vans, and multi passenger vehicles, with up-to-date certifications for all related training.
  • Previous experience in community engagement, public affairs, volunteering, event management, or social media.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel.
  • Proficiency in written Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, Spanish, or Turkish.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Animate, Lightroom, PowerPoint, and Google Slides.
  • Experience with Google Analytics and Salesforce.
