Title:                     Refugee Specialist

Status:                 Full-time (temporary for 9 months)

Location:             Any IRUSA offices

Position Summary:

The Refugee Specialist is responsible for coordinating with IRUSA local refugee partners/network across the US on resettlement refugees. The Specialist will provide oversight to the refugee network on refugee caseload, reporting, budgets and policy & Program Compliance. The Refugee Specialist will also work with local IRUSA partners to help build capacity and provide program guidance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

·        Design workflows and assess quality of program implementation.

·        Train local co-sponsor groups able to take on the logistical and financial responsibilities of co-sponsorship.

·        Notify refugee resettlement agency of geographic locations where IRUSA is prepared to receive cases, and the volume of cases that can be allocated to each of those locations taking into account housing and school district capacity.

·        Ensure that Afghan parolees sponsored within the IRUSA network receive, in accordance with the APA Cooperative Agreement requirements.

·        Ensure that the financial and case file reporting requirements are followed.

·        Provide ongoing support to co-sponsor groups within the IRUSA network during the 30 days following placement.

·        Performs other duties as assigned. 


Qualifications and Competencies: 

·        Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work.

·        At least one-year relevant work experience in the social service field, preferably in refugee resettlement in a non-profit setting.

·        Strong logistical skills with demonstrated success in managing complex projects and meeting deadlines

·        Ability to manage multiple priorities that are somewhat complex in nature.

·        Prior successful experience in a deadline-oriented role with a sense of urgency.

·        Must possess effective interpersonal oral and written communications skills that include some exposure to grant writing.

·        Must exhibit cultural competence and sensitivity to working with diverse ethnicities and faiths; commitment to inclusive practices related to gender, age, and disability.

·        Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and achieve objectives.

·        Excellent record-keeping skills. 

·        Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

·        Must exhibit analytical and strong problem-solving skills.

·        Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and social media.

·        Must be eligible to work in the United States.
