Position Summary:

Coordinate the Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery work of Islamic Relief USA in the municipality of Harris County TX. The coordinator will be responsible for enforcing the operational policies of IRUSA’s volunteer dormitory, and for management of the facility and volunteer team residence. The coordinator will also engage and develop local partnerships with relevant government agencies, non-for-profit organizations, private sector organizations and effectively represent IRUSA on local disaster forums such as relevant County VOADs (COADs). Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for providing oversight to Long-Term Recovery grants and be responsible for all grant reporting for the Harvey Project. The candidate must show commitment to IRUSA’s faith-inspired values and principles as well as a commitment to the vision and mission of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Dormitory Management
  • Responsible for the maintenance of dormitory campus, purchase of maintenance supplies, coordinating payment requests for facility and cleanliness of dormitory campus/grounds.
  • Responsible for the enforcement of all operational and dormitory policies.
  • Coordinates facility needs with IRUSA’s National Operations Team.

Grant Management
  • Maintains accurate records of progress and financial reports for the recovery project.
  • Responsible for grant reporting, submission deadlines, and documentation of the long-term recovery grants.
  • Reports on-going statistical and descriptive information regarding programs, operations, and finances to the Disaster Response Manager.
  • Coordinates the supply of materials, equipment, tools, volunteers, and contractors required for each project with recovery partner representatives.

Partnerships
  • Maintains an effective relationship with IRUSA’s primary recovery partner and develops, cultivates and maintains relationships with local relevant governmental partners, non-for profit organizations, private sector organizations, and local COADs.
  • Represents IRUSA on local disaster management forums.

Volunteer Management
  • Orients volunteers to project expectations and assign specific jobs according to their skills and abilities.
  • Provides oversight to IRUSA National long-term recovery volunteers when deployed to assist with the Harvey Recovery project.
  • Coordinates both National & Local Volunteer recruitment with IRUSA National Volunteer Management Office.
  • Monitors IRUSA’s volunteer workers in ways that ensure safety, quality workmanship and high morale while providing service to disaster survivors.
  • Serves as a liaison to other recovery organizations for sharing and receiving volunteers.
  • Maintains scheduling record for volunteers and/or volunteer teams.
  • Standard administrative tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 1-year work experience in Long Term Recovery, Disaster Management or similar field.
  • Experienced in managing diverse teams in the field.
  • Must be able to respond on a 24-hour basis to emergency situations at the dormitory.
  • Experience in working with diverse volunteer groups.
  • Must possess effective interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Effective written communication skills, including demonstrated competence in generating reports and narratives.
  • Must exhibit analytical and strong skills.
  • Ability to self-manage multiple priorities.
  • Cultural competence/ cultural awareness of different religions, faiths and backgrounds
  • Proven ability to exhibit cultural competence and sensitivity in working with a wide array of ethnicities and history of maintaining relationships with these same communities.
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and use of databases.
  • Ability to travel within the state of Texas.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
