Position Overview
The Safeguarding Coordinator implements, coordinates, and oversees safeguarding policies, procedures, and practices across Islamic Relief USA and its programs. This role will coordinate and collaborate with the USRAP program and its affiliate sites and o IRUSA-wide safeguarding efforts. The Safeguarding Coordinator will play a crucial role in creating and maintaining a safe environment for all individuals associated with our organization. This position will ensure that we uphold the highest standards of protection and care in our USRAP program and IRUSA-wide operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and review the program's safeguarding policies and standard operating procedures (for adults and children), which are tailored to the specific needs of the USRAP program.
- Review and ensure adequate safeguarding policies and standard operating procedures are in place for affiliate sites.
- Monitor and evaluate safeguarding practices within the program, identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide specialized training and support to USRAP staff and its affiliate sites on safeguarding matters.
- Provide support and be the first point of contact for all affected parties regarding incidents arising from Redflag Reporting and other reporting pathways.
- Conduct and oversee investigations into safeguarding allegations.
- Maintain confidential records of safeguarding cases and reports.
- Create and maintain reporting systems and mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safeguarding standards and legal requirements.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safeguarding training programs for staff, volunteers, and partners.
- Act as the primary point of contact for safeguarding inquiries and concerns.
- Coordinate the response to safeguarding incidents and concerns across the organization.
- Perform risk assessments related to safeguarding activities.
- Prepare regular reports on safeguarding activities and incidents for management.
- Provide safeguarding updates to management as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, human rights, child protection).
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in safeguarding or related roles.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding best practices and legal frameworks.
- Must possess effective interpersonal and oral communications skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Commitment to the protection and safety of vulnerable individuals.
- Proven ability to exhibit cultural competence and sensitivity in working with a wide array of ethnicities, and history of maintaining relationships with these same communities.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and use of databases.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity.
- Capacity to manage complex and sensitive situations.
- Ability to influence and promote good practice across diverse team.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
